Of course Hydro prices are going up again this summer... And we've all seen the insane prices at the pump lately... Why don't governments invest money into renewable energy like this?? Oh right ... Free, clean energy doesn't make anyone rich. It's time for a change!

Uhmm, you can get a solar system on your roof that WILL make you money! And your being environmentally conscientious at the same time!! And it won't cost you $150K and it won't take up your entire backyard!

Ok, you guys are missing my point. The system buddy built is obviously a prototype with those huge tanks and converters and such, and the video is from 2008. The first computer, fridge, VCR, Microwave...etc didn't cost what it does today. I'm just saying people need to start demandind that their governments invest money and resources into these type of initiatives.

What's "brain dead" is continuing to pay these crazy prices, making these monopolies richer that are ruining our planet and our health and not questioning why or not demanding change.

What exactly is it that is ruining our planet and our health?? Thought we already tried the 'go green' approach in Ontario and it's failing MISERABLY.

Anyone ever heard of Nikola Tesla? Supposedly he invented free wireless energy but they decided to go with copper wires instead...easier to meter and make profits! Look it up...

What's brain dead is not realizing that our government IS investing money in resources in these types of initiatives, and THATS the reason why Ontario has some of the most expensive hydro rates in North America.

You’re asking for more of the very thing that has caused our rates to increase by 50% over the past 5 years!!!!

When there is a viable business case for it the private sector will be all over it. Meanwhile let's quit throwing away our money on stupid crap like this. (you do realize that governments "invest money" by sucking it out of the private market and private citizens, right?). The government doesn't even do simple things like trash collection as well as the private sector. Why would we trust them with this??

In yesterday's news they were saying that in a month, Ontario will officially have the most expensive hydro in North America. This all thanks to failed Liberal plans, policy, and management from an incompetent provincial government who chooses that the implementation of pet projects at any cost is more important than the provinces well being.

On Newstalk 1010 a provincial idiot spoke for the government and said that the horrendous cost of these hydro pet projects would never result in lower rates for Ontario, and that we should hope for the rates to stabilize.

Considering the fragile nature of Ontario's economy, the idiot Liberals are single handily making Ontario one of the worst places for industry to develop.

Way to go Dalton. I know your pension will allow you to prosper. Thanks for leaving the rest of the province a financial mess.

I hate Liberals.

Despite my online name, MY HEAD, is not in the sand.

BTW, some Conservative policy and actions are not my favorite either, so I am not realy a big fan of either party. I just think, in fact I know, that Liberal parties in Canada, are by far the worst of the two evils. Liberal policies, poor moral values, pandering, incompetence, and their ability to manipulate the many weak minded among us, disgusts me.

Liberals pretend to care, at our expense.

+1 to this!

The reality is that the hydro generated by those solar panels you see on people's roof's is being paid for by all of us collectively, and at a ridiculous rate thanks to the Liberals deciding to pay 10x the going rate for hydro generated by those panels. It's all well and good for the people who have them installed to be making money from them, but personally every time I see them I think "gee, thanks so much for helping to raise everyone's hydro rates just so you can "save the planet", cough cough". Forget about the fact that it's coming at the expense of everyone around you.

I think whoever came up with this stupid scheme and the rates associated with it should be slapped silly. Dalton is an idiot, those who voted for him are idiots (especially if you voted for him more than once), and IMO those panels should be ripped off every roof and shoved up McGuinty's ass! If you want to save the planet, that's a hell of a start.

The energy generated from microFIT systems has little to no impact on the overall rates in Ontario. As of March 30th 102 MW of microFit was in operation in Ontario. That is less than 0.5% of our overall demand and solar is only online for a limited number of hours per day, so the kWh contribution is probably less than 0.1% of the total.

Nice post with facts. Unfortunately most will ignore them and continue hating the Liberals, because they just want to. Quite common in Milton, I agree.

I agree with the fact that the "go green" initiative has been nothing short of a failure until now and that money is already being spent on solar and wind power and even looking west into the oil sands.

I'm just amazed that, yes while crude, bulky and expensive (what was available to him), some guy from New Jersey can figure out how to make, store and re-use clean, renewable energy while governments and corporations have spent millions on so called "experts" and "technology" and other initiatives with no significant progress ... I say hook this guy up with some brainiacs and industries to build a smaller cheaper system vs spending millions fiddling around with wind turbines and solar panels etc.
