Panasonic plasma all the way... back when we bought our tv's, we got a 42" Panasonic Plasma 720p TH-42PX75U for our bedroom..it was one of the low-end models but still a $1000 at the time... it looks great in HD...even SD looks good, which i think is another plus with plasmas in general.

My 720p plasma has me convinced that for the price, the 1080p panasonic plasmas currently on sale are a tremendous value, not to mention the step up in quality compared my model

I just got back from working on a large 'cottage' up north for the last week. (Who has a 2600sf cottage??)

One of the main things we did was put a theatre in based around a Panasonic 65" Plasma display (the new V10). Gorgeous.

Need some advice from all you Techies...looking for a flat srceen tv, should I go for a LCD or LED :?:

Your question was LCD or LED, no mention of plasma. I'm guessing from reading the previous posts that you now know that LED is actually the back lighting for an LCD TV and is a newer back light technology than the earlier florescent.

The best advice is to go and look at the different TVs available in the size you want and choose the one whose picture you like best, be that "regular" LCD, LED LCD, Plasma or whatever at the price you are willing to pay. Don't get too bogged down in specifications as a lot of these numbers don't really mean much in terms of how you like the picture. That being said, improved specs do represent advancement in picture quality but what is hard to do is sort though which ones make an actual difference to your viewing experience.

I really like the Samsung LED LCD at the store but still like my 8 year old CRT rear projection Hitachi enough that I spent $100 on parts to fix it when it broke a couple of months ago rather than replace it.

bluebpy I would agree with gdm894 its all about whatever picture you think looks best to your own eyes and not nessarally the specs . the naked eye cant tell the differance between a contrast ratio of 20000 to 1 and 50000 to one or a responce rate of .03 vs .05 and i know you will spout off about having a plasma which has a higer contrast ratio and quicker responce rate than these specs but you show your ignorance by thrying to compare you samsung to a pioneer elites ' a tiny bit below " who are you trying to kid, the pioneers were miles ahead of any tvs out there.

50000 -1 vs 20000-1 so you must have super human vision to pick up the extra 30000 shades of grey between black and white. as for avs forum yes there is an amazing amount of info but its posted by people like you and me alot of which is opinion not fact so like all things on the net it must be taken with a grain of salt. if you want to look at tvs go to some where like canadian sound where the tvs are displayed in room like settings with light levels that mimic your house not blaring showrooms and there you can make honest comparisons between sets with professonals to help you not commision driven sales kids

"those are the numbers you see when you bring the tv home in your own enviroment" ? why , does the contrast ratio change between the store and your house cause it stays the same in the rest of ontario ?

I had purchased my Plasma TV (Pioneer – 5010) two years ago from Best Buy on boxing day. It was on sale , almost $1700.00 off.
I have seen so many TV’s including Samsung LED, at my friend’s houses,.
I am proud to tell you that, I like my TV far superior than any other TV, I have seen so far.

Thanks, Raj

Pioneer makes/made excellent sets. However they do/did come at a premium and not everyone is going to pay the extra for it, no matter how

What Gerry stated regarding what looks best to you is inherrently true. Not everyone is going to view something the same way and not everyone is going to be watching the same thing.

People ask me about TVs all the time. I suggest just going to a store and viewing the set that appeals to you the most and then watch what you normally would watch on it.. Be it a movie, a TV show, or sports. Each one of these can either look great on an LCD or horrible, but some people will accept that because they don't want to spend the extra money.

In my opinion, plasmas will offer the best all round picture. However it's not always the best solution for every situation.

If all you need is specs to buy a TV then why bother turing it on at all in the store? Just look up online and find the TV with the manufacturer reported best numbers and buy it. It will for sure look good to you, it has the best numbers, trust me! Never mind that numbers are measured and reported by the TV makers in many ways knowing that most people think that a bigger number is a better number. Here's an interesting read on contrast ratio:

http://www.practical-home-theater-guide ... ratio.html

My job in selling a TV to a customer is to determine their requirements, what they watch, how much they watch, the room they watch in, their budget, their manufacturer preference... and find the best value TV for them that meets these requirements. My job isn't to talk them into buying the TV with the "best specs".

I want my customers to go home and be happy with the TV they bought from me!
