My own experience is they will credit the overages if it is not customary. I don't think you can do this every month or anything but I'm sure for 2 months they will credit you.

Ok this is crap, apparently they sent me an email saying my usage was high, at least 4 times. Obviously I didn't receive these emails, or I would have known to look into it sooner.

Their system only sends overage notifications to your Cogeco's primary email account. If you don't use that account, then you are SOL. I think it is a gap in their system ... and they should be able to send notifications to whatever email account I specify as a customer. But oh well ...

So far I haven't been mis-charged for my usage. I keep track of my usage, and most of the time they are pretty accurate.

They used to phone us anyime we went over to offer us a higher package with more bandwidth till we told them to stop. Now we just check the internet usage on their site regularly throughout the month.

Time to put this to bed, Cogeco agreed to pay me back the overuse fee illegally charged to my account after several calls by the end of this month.

I am now enjoying life again without constantly watching my bandwidth. So far 3 days of start internet and I am under 2.5GB usage for all 3 days! This is with pandora streaming on 2-3 channels and finally getting to watch netflix again! Today I was home all day and streamed some sports for 90 minutes online, watched the hunger game on netflix amongst others, pandora all day and I am just kicking 1.3GB!

Surprise, surprise, even after disconnecting officially from cogeco on the 15th, they still charged me the daily mandatory 9-11GB on the 16th AFTER my contract was over, modem disconnected and I was already with start.

I have the 16MB up and 1MB down package with 300GB limit from start. The way I see it I can't hit 300GB a month, maybe 100GB max and I am tempted to drop to the 200GB package since I am actually getting faster up/down speed than my 30MB/2MB package from cogeco:

So, that's all folks. The only other strange thing was some guy knocked on my door with a cogeco ID asking to pick up the modem the day before the service was to end. I refused since cogeco mailed me a return box. I don't know if this is standard cogeco practice.

We also feel like they are putting up wrong numbers..

I used to watch a lot of stream's and videos at 720p, like 6+ hours a day while i did other things. we went over a few times...

Now i watch maybe half hour-hour a day, at 320 or 480p and usage only dropped a small bit.

also find it hard to believe once it said i uploaded 9 gigs in a day; My torrent up speed is capped at 1kb/s, and i don't torrent much.

What package are you on? I don't think they offered unlimited usage. Do they? If so, for how much? (if you don't mind sharing this info). Thanks in advanced.

Ahh ok! I'd rather be with Start or Other providers ... that price is just outrageous :) LOL

I was looking for info about over-charging for usage by cogeco, and found this thread.

I have one of the best connections 30Mb down / 2Mb up. 175GB limit.

I have moderate usage but am usually not even within 100GB of the cap, until recently. In mid-January I had a single day which claimed over 50GB of upload and I have been charged for overages. I heard there was issues with their meters mid -Jan but they claim everything is ok.

I went in to check my usage, and on March 1, I have almost 80GB of UPLOAD in ONE DAY and I'm at my limit now.

For reference - My connection has 2 Mb upload max. That is 0.25MB (8 bits in a byte) per second. The absolute maximum possible upload on any cogeco connection they offer is about 21GB a day. March 1st alone is almost 4 times this.

I talked to Cogeco who have refused to credit my account. I have talked to them twice and on 2 supervisors who say they have created tickets, but refuse to even acknowledge the possibility of an error. Considering they charge $1GB for overage - this could cost me hundreds of dollars. I would advise everyone to check their usage, particularly on March 1st as I heard their system has trouble with the Feb 28th /29th date with leap years.
