easy. They have higher birth rates in the part of the world that subscribes to the Hindu faith. People are born into their religion, its not really about choice. People who are catholic, posting here, are quite likely catholic because they were born into the catholic faith. They did not go on a lifes long mission of discovery. Their parents told them there was a god named Jesus, and they went from there.

Had that same catholic been born in India, it would be the same story with a different faith. Religious subscription is geography based.

Which of course only futher proves its hypocrisy, but that will just get people who were born into their faiths angry

Very interesting information, I must admit I am naive in the Hindu faith. All I know about is the half elephant/octopus Ganesh deity because I saw it on the simpsons. Now that I think about it, all I know about that religion Apu from the simpsons taught me. Is it true Hindu's started the Quick-E Mart? Joking aside, how to they keep their membership so high if there is no recruiting?

Is the caste system still heavily pushed in India though? IMO that is a pretty big interference in peoples lives via religion.

You forgot the episode where they did a cross section of the earth and past the crust, magma etc, there was a giant Shiva sitting in the core, in what looked like a control room, pushing a bunch of buttons with his multiple arms. :P

As for membership being high....2 reasons. 1) Breed them and brainwash them ( do you know what the population of India is? Not the mention the reach of the Indian diaspora globally. They're everywhere. ). 2) Flexibility. Nobody stops being a Hindu because you don't have to. Don't want to be a vegetarian? Eat meat. Love the taste of Cow? No worries, you can give it up next lifetime. There is a facet of hinduism that meets whatever your level of commitment is. Don't even want to pray? Just do good works instead. Work is literally Worship. Your faith, your call.

The caste system is an Indian socio economic thing not really a Hindu thing. Same for burning widows. Husbands family don't want the financial burden of looking after her so they toss her on the fire too.

The one thing all religions have in common is that the scriptures were written by men, who twisted things and made things up to suit their own purposes. God didn't write anything. Men did and said that it's what God told them. Maybe God did, but do you really know for sure?

Hold on, hold on here.... A religion that doesn't dictate how I live my life and just asks, worst case level, that I be a good person? It doesn't impose its way of life on others and doesn't even require me to use one of my weekly days off in a church? I'm sorry, but such a good thing can't quite possibly exist. Take your mumbo jumbo elsewhere, cuz that sh*t don't fly here.

Lol. It's true. I know a Hindu couple where the wife is completely vegetarian, prays multiple times a day, does "service" like charity works etc, doesn't drink, gamble, and reads the holy texts for recreation. Her husband will eat just about anything, but won't eat some meats when with her because it upsets her, he drinks, gambles, goes card playing when she's at temple and he doesn't believe priests add value to life. He helps her with the temple fundraisers but won't actually attend the prayer services there. They believe in the same god, share the same religion and have been married for 45 years.

There are extremists like with all religions but it's basically the mellowest religion ever. Think about it. They believe in reincarnation. If you mess up this life, you get a do over. Mess up that one? No worries try again. The goal is to merge with the "Supreme Being" at some point which I think is the equivalent of getting to heaven, but it's not like you only have the one shot. You may take longer to get there than the guy next to you but, that's your call again.

Because it's a fascinating topic of conversation. Everyone wonders and wants to know what happens when this story ends.

Is death a reality? Or is consciousness actually a separate entity from the brain that can exist after the neurological impulses in said brain cease?

One makes a little more sense than the other to me - but heck... I've not died yet to report back. When I do, I'll be sure to post it on the villager!

Agreed, I think time will reveal all. But in the meantime, common sense helps me understand what might actually be real. I personally don't believe in a Devine creator, because someone would had to of created that guy, and someone to create that guy..etc. I do however believe that energy can not be destroyed and anything that posses it will transfer to perhaps one of the sopossed five dimensions.
Still watching and waiting for the truth. Somebody's gotta know the truth, but it may not be very profitable. And I wonder if this pope is still going to continue the Vatican observatory program the previous pope started?

Now we're talking! You're touching on The Big Bang, inflation and quantum theory there.

No one really understands quantum theory... yet. But the discovery of the Higgs Boson is a big door opening into the sub atomic world.

Hold on, folks.... The answers are pouring in these days almost as fast as we can ask them.

The rest of you.... keep reading your 1 (one) book. :)

For the individuals that are not educated in Catholicism, this religion does NOT accept homosexuality. Therefore, this Pope is correct with his beliefs. If he believed in homosexually and gay marriage then it would be contradictory to the Roman Catholic beliefs.
Please do not try to start a debate about this religion. The beauty of this world is that you are free to believe in any religion you choose. Therefore, if a religion does not "suit you", move on and find one that does. No need to stir up crap this early in the morning. Seriously!

Not exactly....the Catholic church does not have a problem with someone who is homosexual...they have issues with acting on it (so having a relationship with someone). (Which makes no sense in my opinion...but when you look at the original reasoning for intercourse, according to the church, it does make sense.)
