Its the stores that require 'manager approval' to price match that make the wait time longer.
Price matching only takes a few key strokes for the cashier.
Shop at food basics... they don't price match.
I used to encounter this problem when I was on mat leave... companies for baby products would send a "cheque" for $5/$10/$15 and they had to be processed as if you were paying with a personal cheque (someone has to bring a key, punch a number, turn the key, print an inch of receipt paper, inspect the paper, adjust it to the left a 1/4 inch, print some more, spin around once, take the cheque, feed it into the printer, compare what just printed on the newly straightened receipt to what's now printed on the cheque, explain the process to the cashier [even though they don't posses the necessary key for such a transaction]). I used to warn people in line behind me of exactly what would happen, offered them my place in line (because it wasn't like I had anywhere else to be) and of course no one would take me up on it, but they would
still make that goat-face when they discovered I had not one but
two cheques
