Hi all! Unfortunately this morning when I put out my blue box I underestimated how windy the day was going to be.. As a result we get home today and our blue box is nowhere to be found :(

If anyone has come across our box on Goutouski Crescent please let us know. Thanks in advance!

Lids are a good idea and should be looked into. I have also received a number of calls from residents to say there is even more garbage along Louis St Laurent in ward 6 after this wind storm.

I would think that a redesign of the blue box with a lid or making it heavier might end up costing more down the road.

The boulevards and the pond on LSL near Vickerman are absolutely covered with garbage and recycling. The section of LSL right across from the entrance to the Metro is absolutely disgusting. It looks like Mexico or some place where people couldn't give a flying F about litter. All of the blue boxes on Zimmerman and Marshall streets that parallel LSL just overturned and dumped their entire loads all over the boulevard and across the street into the farmers fields. Its a hell of a mess and of course nobody has any pride in their community and it will never get cleaned up. It really is embarrassing for the town's image and it makes me rage when I see it!

In the City of Toronto, they have blue boxes 3 times the size as our green bins. When the city introduced the blue bins the city made the residents decide what size of bin they want. Can the town invest on those types of bins??

What I also find bloodboiling is that it's 3:45 and Yates Drive hasn't been even picked up yet!!!

My question to the regional councilor is why are we paying taxes to the Region then????
Halton needs to keep up with the population and create smaller pick up collection areas. This is effin ridiculous that it takes them a whole day to collect garbage.

Of all the world's problems this is what gets your blood boiling? Really???

If this is your biggest problem in life, you must have a really great life.

Hee hee. Two thumbs up on this. I already tried this approach before my friend and got torn apart. Apparently lifes too short to step back and evaluate what's really important. Must be the air in Milton.

You can order a replacement online, see link below. I lost both blue bins and requested replacements online - they dropped them off in front of my house 2 days later.

So does that mean you won't try to clean part of it up?

I literally spent 45mins in the field beside my house cleaning sh*t up (at 5 1/2 months pregnant).
If you don't like the way it looks do something about it, or try to get a few people to come out and help. I'd gladly lend a hand to pick stuff up.

Is there any way to have them collect earlier in the day? They don't come to my area until about 3 or 4 pm and by that point the street is a mess!

It's not a question of what time of day collection will happen wind can occur at anytime it is a matter of containing our recycling so when collection happens everything is contained/secured in the proper receptacles. Right now the current blue boxes are not doing a great job containing anything but air! We the residents of the town of Milton are not going to accept this substandard container they call the blue box! Enough is enough already the time has come and as noted councilor Best is going to address this issue at this Wednesday's meeting.

Time of day is part of the issue, if its put out in the morning (bc thats when most ppl go to work) and if its picked up in the morning there is less time for it to end up on the street......or down the street.
For example today, many people put their bins out by 8am and if its not picked up until 3pm thats 7 hours for it to fly around.

But I agree, ppl need to learn how to pack it all in and weigh it down and that we need a better container for it.

ps...we now have 4 extra bins from our lawn (no addresses on them) that no one came to claim so, let me know if you still need one!

I agree! The blue boxes need to be revamped. If the ones shown in the picture above will be allowed then I will purchase one but if it does not have some sort of latch system, then it will be no good. My street is always picked up nice and early but there is always garbage blowing down my street on recycle day. This morning when I drove out of the driveway at 10am, there was so much garbage flying down the street and the bins had already been picked up. At that point there were empty bins flying down the road too with all the wind.

For as long as I have lived in Milton, there have always been high winds here. It's time they have a different recycle bin to stop the amount of garbage ending up on the roads and yards.

Thats great that you took it upon yourself to do that (esp when pregnant!! Yikes!). This town needs more people like you. Unfortunately the majority are the folks who dont give a crap. Not only do they not care to put out their blue boxes so they dont spill, they dont pick up their spilled stuff, Christ they dont even search for the blue box after it blows away!! As for me ,you have no idea how much garbage I have picked up (or been forced to by my own anal retentiveness :) ) since moving to Milton 8 years ago. I have cleaned up the street where I now live at least 10 times because the sloths in my neighbourhood dont feel the need to "lower" themselves to cleaning up their spilled recycling or garbage around their 500K houses. I have called the town bylaw dept to try to get them to punish the assholes who continously dump around here (for all the good that did). I have got the town to get after Mattamy and have them cleanup areas that they own where garbage drifts in or gets dumped and also the region as well (that mostly works). Finally I pick up garbage when I walk the dog every frickin day. Today I felt like sisyphus pushing that boulder up the hill and getting sacked right near the top. Just when things were starting to get clean, 10 times the amount of trash has now blown into the area. Its never ending in this town and I am just sick of seeing it and nothing getting done!

Wonder if the recycling guys would a) be able to figure it out and b) not end up throwing it in truck with the rest of the contents.

My hubby and I left town this past Thursday and got back yesterday...the amount of newpapers and cardboard on our front lawn was actually hilarious. Ahhhh the challenge of owning a corner house.
