Ok... normally I'm pretty good with home repair stuff, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to open the ceiling light fixture to be able to replace a light bulb. For those existing home owners, it's the standard round frosted one with the gold-coloured trim found in most bedrooms and living rooms.

Can anyone help? I've tried turning the glass, and it just rotates freely. I've felt all the way around and haven't found any screws. I've tried rotating the base, and it does move, but not much. I suspect that this is how it opens, but don't want to force it in case I'm wrong.

Help!!

Thanks in advance,

Rona

If it comes down on a stem, then push up on the globe and tilt.

Turn the small chrome/brass piece on the tip of the fixture (not where it meets the ceiling). That should allow you to remove the bulb.

Thanks Derek!! That worked perfectly. When I first had tried that, I didn't think it was the way because it was so tight. But knowing that it was the right way to open it, I gave it a little more effort.

Why don't we get basic user manuals about these things?
