Is there any way to get my dryer closer than 11 inches from the back wall? Is there some magic venting system that takes up less room? Our dryer vent and the vent in the wall don't line up so there are two bends which take up a lot of space.

Is there any way to get my dryer closer than 11 inches from the back wall? Is there some magic venting system that takes up less room? Our dryer vent and the vent in the wall don't line up so there are two bends which take up a lot of space. Thanks

It's difficult to say not knowing your actual setup and where your vent is in relation to your dryer...but it's likely similar to ours. We have purchased a side vent kit that had to be brought in from the US. My husband and his friend have to cut a whole in the dryer and everything! Luckily my hubby has his gas license and his friend is an HVAC mechanic. It will then allow me to push the washer and dryer back they are really sticking out right now. Does that sound similar? We called Reliable parts 905-569-8333 told them our make and model and they ordered it for us. It cost $43 for our Bosch gas dryer. Look up accessories for your dryer and see what is available. |

okay, and your actual exhaust, is it located behind the dryer or to the side of the dryer. Our dryer was a rear vented style but our exhaust is on the side- that is why we ordered the kit and then we can push back the dryer. |

The wall exhaust is behind the dryer, as is the dryer vent. They just don't line up well, resulting in two bends which is taking up a lot of room. I'm hoping there's some kind of fix as it looks pretty silly as is. Will post pic's a little later. |

Jennifer, Our washer and dryer are stackable so our problem was that the vent in the wall was at ground level while the dryer was up high so we used a telecopic dryer vent. Not only did it take care of our height differance but it is also a straight pipe resembling a 2x8 so we are able to push the washer and dryer quite close to the wall. This might work for you. We got it here.. I got it in Toronto, near Yorkdale Mall. I forget the name of the store off hand, but they sale all sorts of parts for various appliances. It was a stock item, do a google search and I am sure you will find it. Hope this helps. Deej |

I used flexible (aluminum) ducting and it worked quite well. Home Depot $8 bucks. I saw the telescope thing AFTER I installed my dryer. |

I have a space saver vent at the store. They are a flatter telescopic style that may get you closer to the wall (the box says 3" if I recall correctly). The hardest part of these installs is getting the thing attached to the dryer and the wall with the restricted access to behind the machine. If you want to buy one and see if it will work for you I'll even take it back if it doesn't as long as you keep it and the box in good shape. |

Hurray!! Thanks for all of your suggestions. We ended up with a periscope kind of thing from Sears (thanks Gerry!) and it's about 4 1/2 inches from the wall now.
