Need some advice from all you Techies...looking for a flat srceen tv, should I go for a LCD or LED

I got both LED and LCD at my house; so far I think LED is better one when it comes to colors.

What brand did you get? I was thinking about getting the
Samsung LED 8000 series or Sharp Auqos

Just to clarify, LED TVs are still LCD TVs, they are just lit with LEDs instead of flourescent light.

The LEDs can also be placed around the edges of the picture instead of behind so this allows them to be thinner.

LED TVs while appealing on their thin-ness, still have a hefty premium above their LCD or Plasma counterparts.

I have the 42' Sharp Aquos. I would say it's neither here nor there as far as colouring (not that I have much to compare it to I guess), but I've had no problems with it in the almost two years I've owned it.

Finally, someone said it. I was beginning to think they were talking about OLED's (which truly is a different display technology - and worthy of comparison).

On that topic, backlighting (flourescent or LED) is oh so 2000's anyway. In 5 years it'll all look dated.

We compared as we were interested in LED and found better bang for your buck on an LCD. It all depends on what you like and what you are looking for. The best deal in our opinion was on the LN52B750 & LN46B750 Futureshop exclusives, 46" is $600 off and 52" is $1000 off. They are 240hz where the LEDs are still sitting at 120hz, and they aren't even true LED, they are backlit LCDs. The LEDs are super slim but the LCD above is 1mm short of 8cm- that's pretty slim.

It's hard to say it's really a matter of opinion but that's what we thought the best deal was.

--You can't really compare one against another without getting into comparing actual models- they are so varied it's not a good to just go LCD vs. LED, there aren't a lot of LED models but tons of variety and levels of LCD. Research each model- the LCD above has been noted as one of the best picture quality to date.

Samsung is the leader in the LED aty the moment and they are on their 3rd or 4th gen product and they have worked out their kinks. If I were looking for an LED, I would only go with a sammy at this point as Sharp (I believe it is sharp - is only on their 1st gen product and still has a long way to go).

If you want to pay the price for a LED, why not consider a high end Sony XBR (LCD)as this is the most comparible to the LED that Samsung has at the moment. Both are great TV's and you cont go wrong.

everyone can give there opinions and spout specs till they are blue in face but it all comes down to personal opinion i love the rich colours and bright picture on our 42 inch sharp but my wife hates the brightness and turns it down for her viewing. you will only know what you like by going out and compareing the tvs yourself adjust the settings to your liking in a show room and compare them you will probably find that most tvs when adjusted properly will provide a picture very close to each other in terms of quality.

I love my sharp LCD. One feature you might want to turn on if your model has it is the OPC (auto-brightness). I recently found this feature and turned it on and noticed that it helped a lot with adjusting the brightness. You can also adjust the max and min range that it will adjust between so that it never goes to low or to high depending on your tastes.

As for the LED LCD vs regular LCD ... I find the regular LCD more bang for your buck as there still aren't many sources that are putting out 120hz signal yet, and probably won't be until another tech comes into the picture (like OLED).

Also, consider plasma. My dad recent grabbed a Samsung plasma and it is gorgeous with an HD signal. The colours are very vibrant and the blacks are very dark. And I've heard that Panasonic plasmas are even better then Samsung ones. However it is at least 4x as heavy as my LCD, and produces a lot more heat as well.

if you're looking for "most for your money"..there are some great deals on 50" Panasonic Plasma's, 1080p 600mhz somewhere in the 1400-1600 price range. If i were to get another one, it would be one of those.

Not sure if it is the store lighting but I see more reflection or glare off of LED.

Anyone else notice that?

unless you play a lot of video games, i would opt for plasma also.

no need to worry about contrast ratios, hertz/refresh rates, etc. and much better black levels than you'll ever get from an LCD.

that being said, i have a Samsung LCD and i'm very happy with it, but i do game quite a bit on this TV also. BUT, i'm in the market for a Panasonic Plasma for our primary TV.

I know that Samsung LCD Tv's have Automotion Plus, I imagine other manufacturers are coming out with products to combat motion blur.
