How solid is your source.
Costco was represented at the recent Milton Home Show. My wife asked them directly if they were coming to Milton and the answer was no.

From what I was told, the land in Milton is way too expensive and they cancelled plans to come to Milton at this point.

I would take that representative's answer with a grain of salt. I've emailed Loblaws inquiring about the grocery store at the corner of Scott & Derry, I was given the answer "we do not have any plans to expand to that location at this time".

Insider source will tell you otherwise. Please note: my comment is not here to dispute your answer and by no means to get anyone's hope up.

Does anyone else think all of this expansion only hurts Milton? I like Milton because its a "small town" not because it wants to be Mississauga.

Small towns are dying. Poor Milton is growing too fast.

Agree with B_rad21

Personally I would hate the thought of a Costco coming here, and I'm a member. Is it really such a big deal to drive 10-15min to Mississauga to shop there. Although I feel the same about Home Depo, Walmart and all the other Big box stores that have made Mitlon home.

Can anyone explain why a costco membership is that useful? We've accompanied friends and family there but never found the savings to be that great. I also find the buying-in-bulk quantities to be far more than our young family of 4 consumes.

You can't beat their quality/price of their meets. Especially their beef tenderlions mmmmmmmmmm.

Milton is "growing up". Big box stores are just part of that process. Personally i have no issue with them. Having them here IN TOWN is a HUGE convenience when you need to go grab something.

Secondly driving to mississauga may not be a big deal at times, but have you ever tried fighting rush hour to get something. Again going back to the convenience of these amenities in town.

The days of the "mom+pop" store are over (good or bad), its reality. FOr Any business to be successful it has to be competitive on a larger scale (ie. Regionally, globally etc). If you don't like modern amenities perhaps a town similar to Paris, Ontario, Actin or other "hick-ville" would suit you better.

You can't fight growth, only manage it appropriately. Closing the door to large businesses is not a way to successfully manage growth.

Perhaps their plan is to come here in 2-3 years... just a thought

I think so. They seem to like to move into areas with a population of 100k+. So georgetown (spit), acton & milton would be enough. And personally I hope this town grows into a city. I moved here expecting growth, and along with it big-box stores like costco. Move to acton/georgetown if you want to live in a static, go-no-where atmosphere

+1 Agreed

You should have thought of that before you moved to Milton. Us "New Miltonians" are to blame for the expansion.

Personally, I am all for the big stores...

Costco is fortunate as they have their member database to mine.

'Milton's got what, 80K people, okay we have 7K members that live in Milton, we can expect a growth of 7K if we build a store there, okay, these guys are big spenders cause they move into new houses every 3 months.. ok, this works!

$$PROFIT$$

I will enjoy not having to drive down to Burlington. Lets get an ikea next :)
