I think its a waste of time, unless you are trying to get your foot into the door in project management. |

Since there are a few individuals who are interested I'll just keep my questions open here in the thread and not locked in a PM. I've been a subject matter expert for a variety of projects where I work and recently have had the opportunity to lead a critical project introducing a new rating engine (insurance). I've always been interested in entering a project management role and I've taken several courses at Humber college to complete the certification there. I've been looking at the PMP website and going through logging all the projects I've worked on and I'm wondering how detailed and accurate the information has to be. In my experience I'm only assigned to projects once they've been on boarded so I've gained little experience going through and convincing stakeholders why certain initiatives are important. In fact the project I mentioned above has been the only time where I got to go through pretty much all 5 process areas (its been a 2 year project). What study materials did you use to prepare for the exam and did you take an prep courses? Where you already in a project manager role before you took the exam and if not what was your career path like after you took the exam? Also what are you doing now for further studies after completing your PMP? Are you looking into doing an MBA? I graduated 6 years ago from university and I'm now looking to expand my education starting with a PMP and then possibly an MBA in 2-3 years. |

For 3 years I've worked on producing rate changes for the company I work with. Basically the role includes planning work effort, documenting requirements, developing system changes, testing for accuracies and promoting into production. I'm not involved in determining when or what rate change is going to be done; the actuaries I work with do that. Once they know what they want and when I get involved to make it happen. For filling out the forms should I list each and every rate change I've worked on; its the same work each time, or should I lump them together and just include the total amount of hours for each project management area? Over the past 3 years it works out to be approximately 45-50 projects... I'd hate to have to type each one in... the forms are not very user friendly.... |

Does anyone have the exam prep or study guide for the pmp? I have ordered the 5 th edition of the pmbok as I hope to give the exam later this year. I'm sure new study material will come out for the 5 th edition. |

The first step is to apply for the PMP examination and get selected to write the test and then you can be serious about taking the exam. Yes I am PMP certified! |
