We are very sceptic of Rainsoft.

After researching Rainsoft, Kinetico, Kenmore, Culligan and the one sold by the Water Store (Laurier/25), we got Excalibur Water Softener/5 Stage RO for $1400 installed.

We are happy with the result for past 1 year

so you decided it was a good idea to drop $10 G's on a system before checking to see what the market prices of these products were? I understand that sleazy salespeople can be quite manipulative, but 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS manipulative??

They apply lot of pressure and people get sucked in the vortex.

Usually we look at recurring cost which is around $70-80 to service the loan. Rainsoft system costs around 7K.

It's funny that this topic comes up today as I just inquired with the water store about a water softener system. They quoted about $1800 installed for us.

Where did you get yours and why did you pick that system over the others?

I'm mostly interested in this as my skin has become SO dry that it's cracking, scaling and painful on my knuckles and knees. I was told by a friend that the hard water may be the cause... Not 100% if I believe it yet, as I've been in this hold for 5 years and this has been going on for about 1.5 years.

www.waterworkcompany.com installed it for us - the guy's name is Peter Cameron.

Phone: 1-877-829-4191

His after sale service is not good though there is supposed to be life time warranty on the system.

Peter had promised to come and replace the RO filter but didn't turn up on numerous appointments.

If you contact Peter, please remind him to fix my issues and ensure that he keeps his word. You can bargain on the price as well.

^^^ Thanks - but given that I know nothing about these systems, a couple of hundred difference would be worth the after sales service aspect...

This thread reminds me of my favourite product of all time:

Remember, if you are not giving your kids purified water, then you might as well be giving them tar-sands-oil to drink.

I'll tell you straight up lady, the water from the tap is perfectly fine. Even for your todler. Sorry to say it, but you were robbed.

^^^ I agree

In fact, a friend of mine, who's wife is a dental hygienist (over 20 years experience), says that she sees more and more kids with cavities and when prompted, say they never drink tap water, thus lacking in the fluoride added to tap water - my concern was on hardness of water...

Actually, you probably will.

This was, to be honest, a blindingly obvious scam. There are many out there that are much more subtle that you simply won't recognize until it is far too late. You should probably just decide on principal that you will never spend more than $500 on anything until you read up on it on at least a few different websites and talk to a few people.

You should also decide now to never ever let anybody into your house who is trying to sell you anything. There will be a time in the future where it will sound reasonable. Where it is for safety, for your children's safety, for your financial safety. Perhaps a pedophile has moved in next door and you need a security system. Maybe Milton is getting flooded and there is a way to save your house if you act immediately. Maybe the government is offering you one million dollars if you pay this company $10,000 dollars today, and they have proof of people getting paid. Maybe the price of electricity spiked yesterday and you can save thousands of dollars by signing a fixed-price contract today. The potential for fraud is unlimited, and your radar is not strong enough to handle this. Just don't buy anything, from anyone, for any reason, ever again unless it is in their store.

Even then, you'll still get ripped off, but it won't be by as much. That's probably the best you can hope for.

Thanks for the heads up.

And while we are talking about god, I am going to thank god as well for the new forum rules, otherwise this would be a public slaughter...

I am the founder of a reputable water company. I focus on whole home water filtration. I only sell higher end units and focus on a narrow range of products that work together to offer solutions to your water needs...iron, hardness, chlorine, sediment etc.

I am not just a sales guy that cant afford the products Im pushing, I have my products installed in my own home.

I only sell non-proprietary products meaning you are not tied to a particular filter company...my filters are an industry standard, many companies offer filters if one should go out of business. This is an important note for anyone looking to filter their water for the next 10+ years. Once you start filtering, you will not ever go back to an unfiltered source.

As mentioned in one post the "law" say 10 day cooling period....I offer 30 day 100% money back. You don't like it I will remove the product(s) and return your plumbing to original status. I will even return your install cost back to you!

Biggest water softener I offer $1349 - Aquamaster
RO $299 - GoldLine
Filtering housings $290 with the first set of filter that last 3-6 months $90 for replacement filters (10 minute DIY job) - Pentek
UV lights starting at $600 - Trojan UVMax

Please google these company names to see the level of product offered.

Install extra. or install yourself

Call me or message me with any questions.

I am located in Burlington. I don't do door to door or employ high pressured sales. Im busy enough without those short sighted tactics.
