so....
bought a wagjag and they came today and turns out "the heat exchanger cracked" so... boom the furnace gets turned off and the sales pitch comes out... "you need a new furnace"

turns out, friends of ours in town (old milton) had Bosco come by and -SHOCKINGLY- their heat exchanger was cracked too. Looking Bosco up online, it appears to be something this guy sees OFTEN (and no one else can)

had an HVAC friend come by and he can't see the issue, will be sending a certified technician tomorrow to hopefully not see the crack the Bosco guy saw

has anyone else had exposure to this?
am i crazy to be thinking this is too coincidental

If you have any issues with Bosco, PM me. I know Rob the owner, he used to be a tenant of mine.

From what I have heard, their $99. drain cleaning quickly turns into a full out drain steam cleaning for well over $1000.

BTW, how old are these furnaces with cracked heat exchangers ?? This problem is usually associated with older furnaces. 17 years and over is considered old for a maintained furnace. When maintenance is rarely done or not done then the life of the furnace can be much shorter.

IMO, Bosco furnace prices will be on the high side. Considering that they are also not local I would not consider them when buying a furnace in Milton.

Try giving MARCH Climate Care on Main Street a call. They are not the cheapest people around but they sure are good, reliable, and local.

Multiple bad reviews about Bosco "condeming" furnaces.

Haha what's funny is that "Daniko" see post #9, is actually the name of the holding company Bosco is run through.

thanks again to you both
Jury is out still, our friends place DID have an issue as there was some CO2 (monoxide? dioxide?) [they had someone come by to run the test bosco should have run in the first place] but from accounts we have heard, tagging it was pre-emptive as it was not a bad enough issue and could have been remedied easier

yes, the friends of ours did have an older place whereas our is only 12 (the REAL Mattamy phase 1 YO!) so, jury is out... if it turns out Bosco did nothing wrong, I'll gladly come back and apologise here and on RFD but at a minimum, their handling of the situation was not cool (particularly in a world where the internet makes every customer interaction an open book)

Yeah and just to be clear, I'm not stating that they have done anything wrong either. Just stating facts (they were a tenant of mine...I can contact the owner...found the RFD post funny). They could be the best in the business for all I know.

Wag Jag is a waste of time. What do you expect when they are providing a service for 50% off? How well would you work for 50% of your regular salary? These deals are a trap for the cheap and ignorant.

oops, I should update this with the results..

turns out our friends DID need a new furnace but no one could find a problem with ours (we had 2 others come in and look)
the more frustrating part is that if it WAS the heat exchanger, we have a warranty that would have had it covered. The Bosco guy did not know of it but the 2nd and 3rd techs did.
