Hi 2nd Line Unfortunately due to fluctuating winter temperatures Town staff for the past 10 years have not been maintaining the ice as it needs to be at least 4 inches thick for people to skate on it and thicker for equipment to be on the ice. There are signs posted along the Martin St. side of the pond warning of thin ice similar to storm water ponds throughout the town. http://www.milton.ca/en/play/resources/ ... llpond.pdf The pond varies in depth from 1-3 metres and there is open water areas around the inlet and outlet where there is flowing water. The millpond was created by the Martin family to hold water to power the first gristmill on the east side of Martin St. where the Martindale retirement home is now located. You can read more about the history of the pond on the display boards at the front of Centennial Park on Martin St. Colin Best Local & regional councillor Wards 2,3,4,5, North of Derry road. including the mill pond area. So they don't do anything with it even if conditions permit? Does TOM own it? |

Given that it's hard enough to maintain little a little outdoor ice pad at Rotary Park with the crazy temperatures I'm really not surprised about Mill Pond. Why would you want that liability? |

You can't skate on it because its not frozen. The Sports Centre however has ice year round. |

When they did the last "beautification project" on the mill pond it has never been the same in winter time. I think they dregded it and altered the water flow a bit preventing it from freezing like it used to. I would really like to see support for outdoor rinks in some of the parks that can be maintained by neighbors. Matt |
