I usually see white/grey smoke coming out from all the chimneys of the Gas power station near Milton, but today, the colour of the smoke was yellow/brown, is it safe??

Apparently it's safe and normal. There was an artical in the paper about it shortly after it fired up. But personally I think Cover Up.

It's nitrogen dioxide, a byproduct of natural gas combustion.

One of the first thread I posted here was an article about it:

Curiously enough, some blasted me for it. From which I roughly gauged the level of retard on this board ;) [Not that bad]

Anyway,

One addition I'd like to add to fm1010's comment; The levels being put out by the plant are safe, however NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) gases can become toxic in large enough concentration.

The exhaust monitoring is performed by the plant's operator, the exhaust data is than submitted to Environment Canada and can be reviewed on the sites I linked in my original article.

Did not see the first post, thanks for the info. very interesting, but I wish they did not have that plant so close to us.

The 401 is not much better.

Saying that, I've seen some pretty nasty places in the world. Our little gas plant is nothing.
