Hey Guys, This happened to me 3 times in the past two weeks and I don't know what the issue could be. We noticed the hot water stopped running in the evening, but the cold water was fine. Tried all the faucets in the house and nothing came out when we turned it on hot, water would flow with regular pressure while on cold. I wend to the basement to check the hot water tank and it was fine. I opened the valve at the bottom and hot water came out. I tried the faucet in the laundry tub and there was a burst of hot water, then 2 seconds later nothing. I checked the pipes coming from the hot water tank and followed it to the mixing valve and then each line that breaks of from there. No issues no leaks. I shook the pex pipes a bit, and immediately the hot water started flowing in the laundry tub. Asked my wife to check upstairs and it was fine. So everytime (2 more times in total) this happened I went to the basement and shook the pipes then the water flows fine. What could be causing this? Im thinking there is something stuck in the pex pipe and when I shake it it moves or, there is an issue with the mixing valve. Anyone have this issue before? |

Do you feel hot water in the pex pipes, or not particularly hot? If not hot in the pipes after the mixing value, that would be my initial thought as the cause. They can become clogged after a number of years due to the relatively hard water. I've had this happen. I went to Home Depot and got a replacement myself and installed it, and hot water returned to full normal flow. But, they aren't cheap (~$125, I think), so you may want to determine if that is in fact the root cause. |

This was happening to us - the hot water would slow down then we hear a "BANG" from the tank and it would flow. We had Direct Energy in to fix something else and he turned our hot water temperature up - told us that should fix it - It did! Apparently there are little nibs/nipples/nozzels/something in there that go up and down to release the hot water. But not heating it up enough (we had it at the "recommended" setting) it was not keeping the nozzels warm enough. Try having the hot water turned up a little higher. could also be the mixing valve as suggested above... |

The hot water connection out of the top of the tank is clogged |
