Hahaha, so the guy actually wanted to be compensated for his time. How dare he.

You want someone to come "urgently", I'm sure you expect a top notch job, on a Saturday, but $150 is too much?

Good luck with that. You'll pay for what you get.

If 150 is too much how much did you want to pay?

I'll come do it for $10. I may punch a few holes in your wall because it's easier than fishing the wire all the way. With the money you save, you can patch the holes, repaint, etc.

Deal?

I had my speakers fished for $20 each by my electrician, but I was doing a LOT of electrical work and fishing 25 speakers. I have used Paulo for my TV mounting, efficient and does a great job but not 'cheap'.

150 sounds totally reasonable for a one-off job.

No question the guy does good work, but when I priced out Paulo as well I find him a bit on the high side for what I was willing to pay. $50 is way low, but I could see expecting $75-100. Hard to know based on the work, but a buddy helped me do some of my drops and they were pretty quick work. All depends if people are specialists or if they do a lot of things, and they can fish for you -- those guys usually cost less because they are more 'handyman' vs. A/V specialist. I don't see why people are screaming about not wanting to pay $150

Your paying for the convenience of not doing it yourself - if you want to save 100 bucks than "go fish". If not then pay the man - doesn't matter how easy you think it is for him to do it - we all get paid for some type of skill.

I recently had potlights installed the first quote came in and 150-250 bucks per potlight - that my friend is unreasonable. I found someone who installed it for in between 75-100 per pot and did an excellent job I was happy to pay him.

Now I don't think I would have been comfortable paying 50 bucks per pot - something just smells fishy there.

Totally baseless statement. You have no idea how long the run is, what the obstacles are, if there's holes that can be used, if the basement can be used.

To the guy that posted about gas and stuff, nobody gets paid for the fuel they use to get to a job. You charge an hourly rate. Overhead it included within that rate. I'd laugh at anyone that asked for more than $75/hour to run wires behind walls.

So you don't think they charge you for their gas in their (plumber, electrician, etc.) hourly rate?

As I said above (and quoted), overhead is usually a component of the hourly rate. However, that's usually a fixed rate (it doesn't change depending on distance unless it's extreme).

So first you say nobody gets paid for the fuel that they use to get to a job and then you say overhead (and you include gas in the overhead that you speak of) is included within that rate.
Make up your mind.

I think you need to learn the definition of overhead. I'll do it for you. Gas, is a part of overhead (unless you're in the delivery or transportation business). It's the cost of doing business.

Leafs suck bollocks but I don't watch hockey unless it's to cheer for the other team.

Sandeep...you pay for the gas/time/equipment/expertise/knowledge.

You said that nobody gets paid for the fuel they use to get to a job. Once again, make up your mind.

I think the fumes emanating from your toilet and permeating your clothes is making you high.
