a quick question directed more at home inspectors on this board... i get a bit of popping or snapping noises from my house itself. i guess this is from expansion and contraction of the wood with temperature changes. in some cases it is really loud. i'm just wondering if this is something i should be concerned about and should have a professional look at?

I remember for the first year or two in our new home we heard popping noises every now and then too.
It was just from the house settling and we had a few nail pops coming out of the ceiling (which is normal). Noticed it was more frequent during cold-warm weather changes.

Haven't heard it in the last year or so now :) I wouldn't worry unless ur bathtub ends up in your kitchen :)

One thing to consider would be the metal ducts in the home. As they heat up and cool they expand and contract. If they are rubbing against some structure / wood then they can make popping and snapping noises as they heat up and again as they cool.

Google - ducts making noise - and you will likely find more information.

well, my place is fairly settled now (8 years old or so) and it doesn't sound like ducts flexing. once in a while it's a really loud pop and at times it can be quite frequent. in some cases it sounds like it's coming from the same place. now, nothing's coming apart and i don't notice any cracks in the drywall but it is disconcerting...
