I'm used to the constantly failing flappers, and the weak flush, but lately when we flush either of the upstairs toilets, the downstairs toilet phantom flushes.

I'm guessing it's a pressure thing, but I do not have the slightest idea how to track or fix this.

Any suggestions?

I'm thinking the roof vent might be plugged or somewhat blocked.

Wow, that's strange.

I've never had flapper issues. It's always been the fill valves for me.

Two of our 4 toilets have been weak flushes the past few weeks too. Odd.
Occasionally normal, but often weak, some days virtually nothing, and we have to come back a few minutes later and they flush better.

I've changed them all in the last 18 mos due to flapper issues. Good ones so I don't have to deal with it ever again.
Bought 4 during the HD free install event.
3 weeks later the manager called to tell me the install was going to expire. I told him HD has yet to come through on providing a single toilet that was paid in full almost a month ago.
Don't buy toilets at HD unless u can drive away with them same day.

That would suck. We replaced the roof less than a year ago.

How old are your toilets ??? The phantom flush is as you thought, a reaction from the slight increase of pressure after the other toilet has finished filling the tank.

Many homes I am in that are 12 +- years old need or have new toilets so it may be worth buying new toilets.

May I suggest you consider the new American Standard VorMax toilet. I just installed one in our home and the thing is awesome.

The house is 12 or 13 years old, so it is due. We're planning to sell next year, so aren't looking for longevity for ourselves.

just wondering why it's worth buying new toilets? i'm not trying to start an argument with you but a genuine question as to why new rather than replace what bits that's not working?

That's an option as well.
