This is one of our local playgrounds. The swings are all over 3' of the ground (even ignoring the dip under them). Kids can't climb on these by themselves, let alone get off of them safely.

The chains used to be longer, so the Town came out and shortened them. I've seen this at at least 3 playgrounds around us. They even shortened the baby swing chain, so instead of a long, gentle swing, your kid gets a short, jerky ride that flings their neck around.

i remember as a child, when we swung high on the longer chains, the weight would pull one end of the in-ground poles out and back in and out. could be safety for weight distribution. don't understand shortening the baby swing though.

If there's one thing that Milton would think was important, it would be to keep children off of playground equipment.

I think it would be related the the new high speed dandelion seed spreaders needing more clearance.

The flood is coming and they don't want the seats getting wet.

Some adults are short so lets "swing" toward discrimination.

That pic is from my park! Hello neighbour.

The town is required to adhere to specs and standards. Someone, somewhere sued somebody and won and it was related to the height of the swing so they all end up getting retrofitted. At least, that's my theory.

my kids are old enough so I don't have to push them. But I would prefer the increased height so my lazy ass doesn't have to bend over as far to push them. I know a landscape consultant that design parks. I'll try to get a more official answer out of him and report back

You don't bend over to push a swing. It literally swings up to you!

Howdy! My kiddo is still too young for anything but the baby swing, but I keep seeing kids in the 6-10 year range completely unable to use the swings as intended, so most of them wind up lying on their chest/belly on the swings, which seems significantly more likely to cause an injury. Plus when my son asks me to swing next to him, I have to say no because I am too short to climb up myself lol

I suspected some sort of liability issue, I just couldn't think of anything that would make sense.

I checked with my landscape design guy and he was stumped. Turns out he doesn't design the play equipment part of it(or need to know the specs/design ratings). They are pre-fab from a list of manufacturers.
