It's on life support, much like the few people that shop there.

Stone Road Mall has well over 120 businesses and the Milton Mall has a couple dozen. It would not be considered as a major mall where a person can buy anything and everything. People tend to go to the Milton Mall to visit a specific store or two.

It's a very depressing mall.

Give it 10 years - it'll all be housing...

Seriously, it 'survives' as it's just a place holder until it can be redeveloped.

When I had my first kid someone on this forum who worked at the mall messaged me and said they had a gift basket or something for me as a congrats and to just pick it up at customer service. Thought to myself what a very nice thing to do and I figured I would just swing by the next time I was in the Milton Mall.

I was never in the Milton Mall for like a year and thus never picked up the gift. I still feel guilty about this 5 years later.

Started out as a good mall (the 30k Milton days), with solid "anchors" (Loblaws one end, Zellers (I think) the other, and Shoppers in the middle. W H Smith, Radio Shack & other desirable stores. Worth going. I think high rents & BigBox philosophy just pushed everyone out.

Stone Road is about double the size of Milton Mall, Guelph mall has far more business outside surrounding their mall, Milton mall is abandoned property that could be used as is for filming a zombie apocalypse movie

Actually when John Tamai ( an Italian plumber) bought the land that includes the Mall.the Dollarama/Shoppers and possibly up to an
including that row of buildings tht includes that
Ontario Traffic Court office
he buildt his
Milton Plaza
)that chunk from about Moneys Worth and Best Shoes southwards
in the current Mall)

extra strong so that a second floor of stores
could be added.

Once Tamai got cancer around
1989/1990 he was making a few sweetheart leases to some of the store owners
who were friends of his.

The next owners, some property manager firm for the
Teachers Pension Plan
spent their time trying
to rip up those
leases

Tamai was the fellow who paid to have the CN train station moved
to Unity Park ( Chris Hadfield Park )

But the new owners have shown they can be successful (they also developed and own the plaza and surrounding areas of the Metro)

It still looks to me like they are trying to demo the mall and are running it into the ground
I actually pity Lowe's & Winners don't know why anyone would go here

Bentall owns the Milton Mall, OPTrust (OPSEU) owns the Metro plaza.

Bentall probably did develop and now manage on behalf of OPTrust.

Milton Mall
http://www.bentallkennedy.com/pdf/retai ... n_Mall.pdf

Milton Metro
http://www.bentallkennedy.com/pdf/retai ... n_East.pdf

Both on their main website so easy to see
(they could have sold it or whatever but fact is they did far better on that area than on Mall area)

It also is almost laughable how much higher the cost per sq foot is for the mall than the outdoor property (esp things like $2.50 promo expense or food court expense)

It's on their website because they property manage and lease the properties, definitely does not mean they own it. Pension funds hire management companies to do this for them.
