I am surprised -
stunned - that this went unanswered when posted, I feel bad.
If the pump was totally idle and the pit never overflowed I guess it's proof that the water had somewhere else to go as it accumulated in the weeping system, possibly somewhere downhill from your pit' s maximum level, or to a neighbour's pit with a functioning pump.
We skipped over standard retail items and went for a Liberty pump, no regrets can recommend. Get the water jet backup pump too, though if your pit does not overflow with the sump off you are fortunate and seem to not require it.
