Sump pump use to run before, but now I don't hear it and i think it is not working. Basmenet is not flooded though, and never had a problem.
Water remains always to the top of the pit

Can someone recommend honest guy to check the sump pump and operation and replace if necessary?

Many thanks

I don't want to open a new thread but I have the same issue with the OP. I checked Youtube and replacing a sump pump is not difficult. I saw different models from Canadian Tire and Lowe's website. Any recommendation?

I am surprised - stunned - that this went unanswered when posted, I feel bad.

If the pump was totally idle and the pit never overflowed I guess it's proof that the water had somewhere else to go as it accumulated in the weeping system, possibly somewhere downhill from your pit' s maximum level, or to a neighbour's pit with a functioning pump.

We skipped over standard retail items and went for a Liberty pump, no regrets can recommend. Get the water jet backup pump too, though if your pit does not overflow with the sump off you are fortunate and seem to not require it.

Make sure to choose a cast iron pump. They are more reliable and MUCH quieter. The cheap plastic pumps that Mattamy installed were so noisy and ended up failing after a few years. Amazon sells these and deliver..... Installation was easy

Yes, a higher quality cast iron pump with metal impeller is always a good idea.

Installing a new one isn't difficult but sometimes finesse is required. Start with a clean slate and remove all the crap that is typically left in pits by builders.

Probably the best pumps to buy are of course the submersible ones but try to pick one where the float goes up and down vertically on a vertical "stick" attached to the pump. See link below. The pumps with the float attached to a cord can be more of a challenge because unless the pump is set up well then the float swings out and hits the side of the pit. This can lead to all kinds of problems.

IMO the pumps with "shrouded floats" are not as good. These are the easiest to install but they are most prone to fail and can not be as easily tested as other pumps. Builders are using these pumps often these days because they are simple to install and require no finesse or real skill to install them.
