Last night my wife had a bath and afterwards I noticed the ceiling had a couple of wet marks. Any ideas on what is happening or who I should contact to look at this issue? Should I contact home insurance

Thanks

Soft ? Well it sounds like you have a leak, likely from the roof.

But, if it's not soft and just has water marks - then water can condense on bathroom ceilings. If the marks are like water drip marks then use a swifter or something similar and clean the ceiling. Then you will be fine.

If the marks are more like stains that can not be cleaned and the drywall is truly soft then you have a leak from above the bathroom like from the roof.

You did not post the age of your home, which is always helpfull.

How does your roof look ? How old is the roof ?

If you suspect you have a roof problem which you do if you have water stains on the ceiling then you may want to call Lloyd from Strata Roofing from Milton at 905 299 2372 to evaluate, service, or to replace your roof.

Thanks for the information

The house is approximately 10 years old.

The ceiling has water stains and are visible. The ceiling that I'm referring to is my family room. So the ensuite bathtub is causing the issue which is showing downstairs on the family room ceiling.

Thanks

Oh, well if you have a kid that likes to play in the tub then make sure the silicone / caulk along the front of the tub looks good. If that simple fix is not the solution then it looks like you have a leak from the tub, likely from the drain area.

One episode we had, spilled water coming through the hole where the toilet water line passes through the floor, since loaded up with silicone. The piecework dilligaf that ran that line couldn't be bothered to run it through the wall where it should be, one more reason to blow that room up and start over.

I had this issue in a previous home where the hvac vent was right beside the bath tub and it didn't take long to see wet spots on the dining room ceiling below. I ended up ripping up the floor and was able to move the vent another 6 inches away (as far as I could) and putting in sliding shower doors which I don't particularly like. In another home I had to move the toilet paper dispenser that was built into the wall directly underneath the towel rack. It's these sorts of things that make you wonder WTF were they thinking ? ... proof of the "get in and out as fast as you can" contractor piecework mentality. No great concern for human factors in the design. And where is the quality control in home building ? Tarion warranties are just a charade.
