Hello everyone. Our indoor brown tabby cat has been missing for about 36 hours now. We are located at Derry and Thompson. Please check around your neighbourhood for a hiding cat. Her name is Misa and she will be frightened. There are two young girls patiently waiting for her return as they love her very much. Thank you for reading.

Your best bet from the outset is to call the Oakville-Milton Humane Society to report him missing, and hopefully you had him chipped. This comes up a fair bit, and there should be a sticky post at top to keep people from wasting precious time. Those people are all you need, forget FB etc.

Lost A Pet – If You Have Lost Your Pet

Contact the Oakville & Milton Humane Society: this should be your first step. You can contact us by phone, 905-845-1551 or email us at lostandfound@omhs.ca. If you call during business hours, you will be able to leave a lost report with our lost and found department. Otherwise, your information will be taken by our answering service and you will receive a call during the next business day. Call shelters in neighbouring municipalities and leave lost reports in surrounding areas as well. Pets are sometimes brought across city borders by well-meaning members of the public, by unknowing motorists with pets in the back of a truck, or even up in the engine. Check back with all shelters at least every 2-3 days.

Check with your neighbours: the more people that are aware of your missing pet, the more likely they are to notice one in the neighbourhood and report it. Make a lost poster and put it all over your neighbourhood, in the local grocery store, and place an ad in the local papers. You can also tape slips of paper with your missing cat’s information onto mailboxes and doors of neighbours.

Search, search, and search again: Literally get on your hands and knees and look under everything you can. Don’t forget bushes, BBQ covers, decks, balconies, sheds, shrubs, etc. Search your garage. Ask neighbours if you can search their property as well. Use a flashlight and move quietly. Lost pets are usually frightened; making loud noises, calling their name, and shaking treats may not entice them to come out of hiding even if it works at home.

Oakville & Milton Humane Society Lost Pets Program – Is Your Pet Lost

Every year hundreds of pets go missing in the Oakville and Milton area. Your supports helps to get pets back to their owners when they go missing.

In many cases the animal is discovered a couple of hours later unharmed but for the owner this can be an extremely devastating experience and for the pet a potentially dangerous one. Below are some tips for if you’ve lost your pet, or found a pet.

Lost A Pet – Be Prepared

Losing your pet is one of the most stressful things that can happen to a pet owner. It can only take a moment, one open door or a momentary drop of the leash. One of the best things you can do is to be prepared ahead of time, before your pet is lost. Here are a few tips:

License Your Pet: The most important thing you can do to help ensure you recover your pet is to ensure that they have a valid licence. If a dog is wearing a license or if a cat is wearing a tag, people are more likely to recognize that the animal is owned. This means that the finder is more likely to contact the Oakville & Milton Humane Society or if one of our Animal Protective Officers find your pet wandering the streets they will know who to contact.

Microchip Your Pet: In addition to having a licence it is a good idea to have your pet microchipped. Microchips, about the size of a grain of rice, are inserted under the skin and carry an ID number. No personally identifying information is contained on the microchip itself, rather the ID number corresponds to your record which is stored on the microchip company’s database. Every stray dog or cat that is brought into the Oakville & Milton Humane Society is scanned with a device that reads microchip IDs. Be sure that your information is kept current with the microchip company so that you can be located if your pet is found.

Keep an Accurate Description: Take a good look at your pet and note any identifiable markings. Are the paws white, does he have a blaze on his chest etc. Write these down features and along with a general description of your pet and keep them in a safe place. If you lose your pet you won’t have to worry about the stress and panic interfering with the provision of a good description.

Take Pictures: Take a number of photographs of your pet from different angles. These can help the Oakville & Milton Humane Society make a positive identification. They can also be used to make posters to hang up in your neighbourhood.

This is a recording.

Place the cats litterbox outside near your door, this has been proven to help them find their way home.

Thank you everyone who replied. I have done all the suggestions prior to posting on this forum. Since we live in Hawthorne Village....wondered if any of you have seen her.
