Well I suppose a equally effective method is to get a 12 ton hydraulic bottle jack
( or just a ordinary car jack
put the laptop under the car bumper
put the jack in between and just jack up the automobile
crushing the laptop in the process

I took a big hammer to a hard drive yesterday that I removed from an old desktop. Those drives are strong little buggers but in the end that hard drive is toast with broken, crushed, and bent parts of it in different containers to recycle.

I would not trust cleaning a hard drive with only software.

Heck, I'm not even sure what was on that thing but I think this topic inspired me to finally deal with it.

If you take it apart there are some badass super strong magnets inside.

You can donate to ReBoot Canada. They will clean your hard drive and if your laptops are not too obsolete you may get a nice charitable tax receipt.
