What happens if we dismantle the HRV/ERV unit? Are there any significant disadvantages?

"Significant disadvantages". Not really.

But why would you want to remove it / take it down your HRV ?

Is a "basement contractor" suggesting you take it down ?

Could it be because you don't know what it is for, how to use it, how to maintain it, etc ?

If so, you are not alone.

They are a good thing to have.

Reason:

1) It occupies space that is hindrance to basement completion

2) paying a rental fee on this indefinitely

If you are renting it then get rid of it.

Highly inadvisable for an individual to rent an HRV.

A few builders suck buyers into these contracts but not many.

Who is your builder ? Are you 100 percent sure it's a rental ?

this is in another city and not Mattamy. Our P&S agreement indicates rental and inquired with the billing company about this and I was confirmed it is rental.
