1) The issue with China is that we rarely coordinate our efforts and support each other against China.

2) The US is probably the biggest bully in the world and even more so with Trump.

3) We love our cheap Amazon stuff much too much to do that it seems.

1) Maybe that will change now.

2) So true. Trump is a real piece of work. Not for what he does but for how he does things. Regardless of who is the biggest bully, I can't believe that covid would become such a crisis if originated from the USA, Canada, or any other western nation for that matter. Even tin-pot dictators in smaller nations would have asked for help instead of hiding it.

You make a good point here but as a counter-point, I think the US let it get way out of hand. Despite obviously warnings they're getting pummelled. Their death rate from this is something like 3 times ours on a per capita basis.

It could be worse though, have you seen how Putin has handled it?

Sorry to say - but if you are not socially distancing yourself from people you do not live with OR if you are out and about after returning home to Canada with that tell-tail tan - then Halton Regional Police want to know and they will be more than happy to slap you, or all of you with $1000. to $5000. fines.

They can be reached at 905 878 5511.

Hey HHI

Wondering if you saw the news about ICON?

Apparently the computer system the province uses can not handle the fine amounts
Every single one of those Covid tickets written over past year?
Toilet paper
Not one will ever get to see inside of a court room

(The internal system the province uses to record ticket has a maximum fine amount of $1,000 so even though law says ticket amount is way higher, eg $1000 + vict surcharge, or $3000, or $5000+ they have no way of recording it internally)

If you have received a ticket try to get a court date (or even look up ticket in the system)
It does not exist

Now from a legal standpoint, they can deploy a cop to visit you and give you a court summons to appear but you tell me what are the odds they will do this (and needing to do this for every single person they already wrote a 1st ticket for in past year)

The Covid tickets turned out to be nothing more than fear factor, how far you are willing to stand up for your rights and press your luck

For how ICON works?

https://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/how-do ... t-fines-i/

Otherwise need to speak to a lawyer but there are a few who have started making public comments

eg Shapiro Halpern Law if you want to inquire how the Quarantine violation tickets get tossed

https://www.shapirohalpernlaw.com/

(I am sure there are others but they have been giving media interviews)

i'm going to have to disagree with folks that say social distance doesn't work nor does quarantine.

Let's take New Zealand for an example. Life is normal there. People go about their daily lives as if nothing has happening or is happening. why?

Anyone coming into the country is in a quarantine hotel for 2 wks. the hotels is guarded so you can say it might be like a prison.

They've had lock downs but people there take it seriously and they are locked down at home. You don't have the idiots defying the lockdown orders.

When they had 2 cases the whole city/ country goes into lockdown/ social distancing again for a week until contact tracing is complete.

It's a small price to pay to be able to have large gatherings, sitting on a patio with your friends etc, enoying life.

We still are legit way better than what is happening in Peel (& Toronto)
The bulk of Milton cases are down in new area (L9E) and up around Maplehurst (who has given our stats an unfair bump)

I know this is Toronto (not Halton) but vast majority of their Covid tickets now thrown out as well for all kinds of reasons (everything from racism to poor training to inconsistent public messaging)
99 page report from Ombudsman is quite the read but worth it
