Cynthia,

A square column is offered as an option - I saw one in the Cambridge models - looked nice - not sure of the cost though

Wow. Haven't posted in a while, but I have been stalking and reading.
Nice pictures, #1.
We didn't get our book until this week. It's just been too busy and dragging a toddler and a baby to the design centre just hasn't fit into the plans. We got them to mail our book.
And I definitely think we need to get to the DC soon as I don't understand what half of the book is even offering. I'm finding it rather confusing and daunting. This is our first new house and I'm feeling like I'm drowning in trying to understand everything. I'm hoping a trip soon to the DC is going to clear some things up.
A> I heard the delays were due to some late permits. I don't know what I'm going to do if there is a significant delay. I can barely wait as it is now. And a delay for us will mean possibly running close to Christmas. I'd really like to be in and slightly settled before Christmas next year. We'll see.

Anyone dealt with or heard anything about this company, Mr. Potlight?
"$79 including potlight, wiring, switch and installation. Absolutely no mess".
Mattamy charges $213 for the potlight and $85 for each additional switch.

There are a few people posting on RFD re Mr Pot Light, and a few here. Looks like generally people were happy with the work, but Milton has a 15-20 light minimum as I guess he's coming from East/North?

If we ever decide to take the plunge, the one thing I'm going to make sure is that the person is licensed. I think one person in our area (lives on my to-be street Wettlaufer) also advertises, but I've got no idea of his quality (but has done external lights on a few mentioned below).

I'm a Certified Electrician living in the Vista Community! My pricing is about the same as Mr. Potlights. If anyone is still interested in getting some work done you can PM me and I can take a drive over to give you a quote!

Right now you can check out the soffit lights I did on Lot 173 & 177 in the Vista Community. I have a few more jobs lined up in the Vista once the houses close. I'm also on Vista's contact list for Electrician

Hope I can help,
Everlasting

you can also check out www.potlight.ca
they are ESA certified and have an inspector visit and inspect the job
they also install the nice cabinet valence lighting instead of the long flourescent bulbs that Mattamy charges a whole bunch for

they have a 'build your own room' section on their website where you can actually flip the switch to see how the lights look

Thanks, #1 for posting the new pics! What a nice surprise!

Congrats "Russians" on your move!!! Wow, that's amazing...I'm so jealous! But what a nice Christmas present for you guys. We have just less than 1 year to go still...seems too long!

Hi Cressmans :) - We have also found that the selection of tiles are not the greatest at the DC! We too, are looking for grey/charcoal tiles, with not much luck  We're hoping we missed a few tiles so we'll look harder next time.

Btw, does anyone know if you get the granite/quartz upgrade with Mattamy that your faucet will automatically get upgraded too? I thought I read that in one of the blogs...

Wishing you all a safe and Happy Holidays!

Christine & Sal

When we sold our house, we had to clean everything before the showings. Its tough with a baby around, but it has to be done. Just hope you don't have alot of showings. I think we had 20-25 showings.

I would have ideally liked a closing before September, when there's still some sunshine and before the kids start school.

BTW - Escarpment view and PL Robertson are slated to have full day JK and SK - pending approval.

That's perfect timing as my son will be starting JK next year.

I just have to figure out what I'm going to do before and after school.

Yes, those two schools will have full-day JK, great for us too, our daughter will be 4 next year. As for before and after, most likely the school will offer an on-site program, probably in conjunction with YMCA. From what we've heard, that typically costs about $20/day.
Also, PL Robertson will have French immersion classes.

I am going to go crazy cleaning out stuff, repainting and fixing everything and hope my husband can handle the rest. I am scared!

Oh well....I may have to ship my cat and dog out too! : )

That is awesome about the faucet upgrade!! : )

You'll be fine. Your home is in Oakville...you'll have no problems. If we can sell our house in Brampton, you'll have no problems. You'll probably sell in a week. Just an FYI, the market is projected to take a downturn when the HST comes in. This is speculation, but maybe sell before the HST kicks in and have a later closing date??? I'm not sure how it works, but thats what a couple of my real estate friends have told me with regards to the housing market.

From what I heard, July 1st, 2010? Honestly, I'm not sure when would be best, but if I were buying a house I'd probably want to buy it before that day to avoid paying the HST. If you guys are using agents contact them and get a timeline. If you guys can't sell by then I know the September market is suppose to be good. We sold our house in September.

hey guys,
As was confirmed by others, the HST is coming into effect on July 1st, 2010. There should be no material impact to resale homes since they will continue to be exempt from HST (there is no tax on resale homes) However services that currently we pay 5% GST on will be impacted since we now will have to pay 13% GST. These include legal services, and real estate commissions. Assuming legal fees of $2000 and a selling price of $400,000, this will represent about an $1,800 increase in cost.
Hope that helps! Let me know if anyone else has specific questions....I am working on the HST implementation at work and therefore have had to learn lots about it!

Are our house purchases affected by the HST?

Yes. The price increase from Phase 2 to Phase 3 is due to the HST. I heard something about a rebate, but I dunno how that works and if we are eligible...
