what do you think is a reasonable group price for a/c? just trying to budget how much money we'll have for other upgrades. $2500? $3000?

Without negotiation or group rate, we were offered a 3tn 14 seer Carrier unit for about $2600 from an installer in Markham.

Spoke to a friend who works with direct energy about a/c. He says depending on heat load & house size & unit chosen it could be anywhere from $1700 to $2500.

The guy I have been using in my previous two homes and I highly recommend is Richard Payer from CoreTemp Heating and Air. I will work a group rate with him, but expect anywhere between 2500 - 3000 depending on the unit specifications.

He will not be cheaper than a lot of the competitors (I'm sure you see the lawn signs all the time :) ), but his product (Ruud) is a superior product compared to the others out there and he stands by his product 100%.

I am not the only one recommending his work as you could see for yourself from the referrals on homestars.

http://homestars.com/companies/2774127- ... ea=1787331

I'll let you know what the group rate is as the year closes, and please let me know if you would be interested so that I could let him know the approximate numbers.

I also neglected to mention that regardless of who you purchase your AC unit from, make sure you understand that the effectiveness of the system is not only the unit outside (condensor), but also predicated on the unit housed within the furnace (evaporator). What a lot of companies do is provide a decent AC unit (as its the name you see) and cheap out on the evaporator coils inside the the furnace (as its hidden within the furnace).

The price of the coil varies from approximately $200 to upwards of $600 depending on size and quality, so its truly a case of caveat emptor.

I'm in for the group by as well. Might as well save some $$$ if we can. I used Applewood from Mississauga to do my current home's AC. Let me know and I can inquire about a group rate with them.

Hey youngsoo he wouldn't have it any other way. He told me that last thing he would want is for someone else to service the system and potentially damage the work he did. Plus he really knows his stuff, he fixed the blower settings on my furnace in this house and balanced the system as he felt the builder did a poor job with it.

Re: A/C unit
Hey Dan,
We'd likely be in on the group A/C units from your guy. We're lot 186, a few doors down from you.
Thanks.

I told Richard that we would be looing for an install in the spring of 2013, and he said he would meet with me and potentially any of the other neighbors when we take possession in the fall of 2012 to work out his pricing. That way he can give us the best rate based on the numbers as well as a price guarantee for the new year. Stay tuned and thanks for your interest.
