Post subject:  Ward 1 News Update

I love Rick's update on his Ward activities.

Any chance we can get one for Ward 1? Is there anything happening in Ward 1 at all? Been to our Councillor's website but it's very generic with no current information really. I'm jealous now. Rick, how about you do a Ward 1 update as well? Please? :)

Here's the link to the website for those of you who haven't seen it yet.

• It’s really 4 months since we were sworn in! Wow. The Budget generated some good discussion in early January…stay tuned for public input sessions for this year.
• The Traffic Calming Report was approved and if you want the Town to consider a study in your area, email the head of engineering Paul Cripps - paul.cripps@milton.ca. I have already passed on a request from a family at James Snow and Clark.
• Milton is finally going to inter-connect traffic lights to keep them synchronized and thanks to Colin, the Region has adjusted the lights at Trafalgar and Derry.
• The Education Village…we have signed interest from Sheridan College and the Town gave Wilfred Laurier 150 acres to build on…now we wait for provincial funding!
• The Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Hamilton brought their application, for a 100 Acre Cemetery in Ward 1 at the corner of Lower Baseline and Hwy. 25, to Town Council in April and now it will go to the Region.
• On March 22nd I attended the Provincial Public Meeting in Milton on 401 improvements from Hwy 25 to Trafalgar..12 lanes, hov lanes and more. Not in the near future, but important planning. If you want to see what was presented go to www.highway401milton.com and login, public, public info #2.
• Ward 1 growth to 2031. The next Public Meeting will be hosted by the Region on Tuesday April 26th, 6:30 to 9 at Bishop Reding in the Gymnasium. The presentation is at 7:30. This meeting is for you to review, and comment on the proposed “Regional Official Plan Amendment to Update the Regional Development Phasing to 2031”.

Post subject:  Halton waste management survey

If you weren't able to get to the open house today you can see the information presented through the display board link at http://www.halton.ca/cms/one.aspx?porta ... nitiatives
It lays out the various initiatives being considered to get us from 60% waste diversion to 65 or 70%.
Also, Page 14 has shows the potential impact of the various options on our property tax bills.
There is also a link to the survey. The survey takes under 10 minutes and will be up till the end of June. :)

Still waiting for the final "it's done" on 4th Line from the contractor (who was hired by the developers as per the subdivision agreement). The latest is the first week of February.
We are waiting for the region to get permission from landowners where the water course is flooding just beyond Jim Snow.
Will post the construction date and timing for the "other" bridge on Lower Base Line as soon as it is awarded, as well as the schedule for the reconstrution of Hwy 25 south to the 407.
The Beatty Branch has its extended hours Tues, Wed, Thurs till 9.
I have fielded more calls from residents, but that said Tony, Colin and the Mayor continue to work as a team representing us at the region.

4th Line Culvert Replacement.
Well good news and bad news.
The Good news is the contractor (who's bill the developers are paying) is confident they will be finished by the 3rd week of Feb.
The Bad news is the contractor will not be finished till the 3rd week of Feb.
At this point what else can be said except their bad luck continues and the local residents continue to be inconvenienced.
Will keep you posted.

Wow...just travelled along Lower Base Line, west from Trafalgar all the way to 4th line for the first time since the completion of the bridge. I must say, that is a beautiful, scenic route with a nice bike lane (that unfortunately ends @ 5th line). Great work! It looks really good.
