Hi hi09
Thanks for the question and welcome to the neighbourhood.
There is an approved 18,000 square foot retail plaza and gas bar at the south-east corner of Main St. W. and the new traffic circle at Tremaine road which you can find out more on the Intracorp homes thread in the general section. Nearby residents are appealing the gas bar to the Ontario Municipal Board which should have a hearing later in 2012. This is the only commercial development proposed in Ward 8 except for the small gas bar which was approved in 2009 at the north-east corner of Derry & Tremaine. You can go to the town website site
http://www.milton.ca and click on maps which has a section for developments in each ward where you can see the details on any applications. Also you can contact your local councillor Zeeshan Hamid who represents your ward and sometimes posts on the villager and who also sits on the Administration & Planning committee for more information.
The majority of retail developments in 2012 will be at the intersection of Louis St. Laurent & Bronte St. S. about a kilometre south of the Hospital. At the north-west corner Manaman developments should be starting their 100,000+ s.f. retail area including a grocery store similar to the Metro plaza at Louis & Thompson road. At the north-west corner of Louis & Bronte Fieldgate commercial is proposing a 8 building complex of over 100,000 s.f. including a Sobeys grocery store and TD bank this application should be back to council this spring for further consideration.
There is also smaller commercial developments downtown, at Derry & Santa Maria, Main & James Snow Parkway and new applications in the Derry Green employment area east of James Snow Parkway for possible 2013 construction. I will be posting more information on the villager and elsewhere through the year and the Town website also has a section called upcoming reports where you can see what applications are coming to committee and council up to six weeks ahead of the presentation.
