I am sure similar question have been asked but have not found anything specific.
I am going to be a new resident at Tremain and new main street - based on a post i saw that is ward # 8. In any case does anyone know of any major commercial developments coming up to service this part of Milton. Grocery stores / big box/ major gyms etc? I notice most of the main commercial is in and around the go station main/Thompson....just out of curiosity... thanks

Hi hi09

Thanks for the question and welcome to the neighbourhood.

There is an approved 18,000 square foot retail plaza and gas bar at the south-east corner of Main St. W. and the new traffic circle at Tremaine road which you can find out more on the Intracorp homes thread in the general section. Nearby residents are appealing the gas bar to the Ontario Municipal Board which should have a hearing later in 2012. This is the only commercial development proposed in Ward 8 except for the small gas bar which was approved in 2009 at the north-east corner of Derry & Tremaine. You can go to the town website site http://www.milton.ca and click on maps which has a section for developments in each ward where you can see the details on any applications. Also you can contact your local councillor Zeeshan Hamid who represents your ward and sometimes posts on the villager and who also sits on the Administration & Planning committee for more information.

The majority of retail developments in 2012 will be at the intersection of Louis St. Laurent & Bronte St. S. about a kilometre south of the Hospital. At the north-west corner Manaman developments should be starting their 100,000+ s.f. retail area including a grocery store similar to the Metro plaza at Louis & Thompson road. At the north-west corner of Louis & Bronte Fieldgate commercial is proposing a 8 building complex of over 100,000 s.f. including a Sobeys grocery store and TD bank this application should be back to council this spring for further consideration.

There is also smaller commercial developments downtown, at Derry & Santa Maria, Main & James Snow Parkway and new applications in the Derry Green employment area east of James Snow Parkway for possible 2013 construction. I will be posting more information on the villager and elsewhere through the year and the Town website also has a section called upcoming reports where you can see what applications are coming to committee and council up to six weeks ahead of the presentation.

Hi hi09

Just to update you and other new residents I taped this video with Chuck Charlton a local real estate agent earlier this year regarding the planning that the Town and Region are doing, and some of the upcoming projects and new home and employment areas.

http://www.colinbest.ca/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=69

The Monday April 16th Administration and Planning committee meeting has several public presentations and technical reports which will be available online after Thursday April 12th. Check http://www.milton.ca under the TownHall heading and check for Mayor and council and click on agendas and reports for more information.

Hi Colin,

I was on the development map on the Town's website, and it didn't show any application for the Derry Green Industrial section. If an application has been approved, does it get removed? I have a few clients in this area wondering when this area will start to be developed.

Thanks.

Hi Lisa

The new applications for the Derry Green employment area cannot be filed until the financing agreement is made with the builders in the area which Planning staff indicate should be ready for the May 14th Administration & Planning Committee meeting when the 2012 Servicing agreements are made (see the attached upcoming report schedule). There is some applications ready to go and should be posted on the town webpage later this year.

http://www.milton.ca/en/townhall/resour ... eports.pdf

There still has to be some servicing work done in the area and staff anticipate construction to start later in 2013 for 2014 completion of some projects north of Derry on the east side of James Snow parkway behind the new firehall.
