So I am confused about the parking by-laws of Milton. I moved from Mississauga (the west end) where street parking is not allowed over night. That is understandable - to an extent.

What I don't understand is why I would get a ticket for parking my car, on my street, in a parking zone because I was working in the garage. That too, on a Sunday, during the day.

I was given the ticket at around 8pm on Sunday while I was in the garage working - the door closed 80% of the way to keep it cool in there. I had parked outside around 4pm. I had then left to run some errands, come back around 530ish and park at the same place.

Where else am I supposed to park if I have work to do? My wife's car was on the driveway, so I had no choice but to park on the street.

I cannot fathom the logic behind this. Anyone care to weigh in?

you can park up to 5 hours on the street. Plenty of time to do a project in the garage. If you feel its one of those rare times when you need more than 5 hours, you can get a parking consideration for free on the towns website allowing you to park on the street for 24 hours. It used to be only 3 hours, we just recently got it bumped to 5 hours now everyone is happy. Welcome to milton, you'll love it here! Everything makes sense!

Thanks RichardTNC. Actually on that note, I have seen on some streets, signs for 15hr parkings. I am assuming it varies from new subdivisions to existing ones....

and technically, since I left and came back, I was only parked for 2.5 hours when I got the ticket.

Do technicalities stand in court?

you can ask all the people on your street if they want 15 hour parking. If most want it (not sure the percentage) you can ask the town to raise the limit on your street. The town will then send someone to come ask everyone privately. Its hard to get people to agree though because what happens is people from other streets park on your street for long periods and it turns into a gong show for the people that live there.
