Just had a tour of the Velodrome with my son’s beaver troop. Tour guide said that when racing it was desirable to have the the temp very hot, in the high 30’s. Apparently the higher the temp the fast the bikes can go.

I agree. I bought an annual pass but I may try to cancel. The temperature is unbearable.

It has become warmer inside now that it is not below freezing outside. It is quite warm while standing around or spinning on the rollers, but I find it very comfortable while riding out on the track. It could probably stand to drop a few degrees, but I wouldn't describe it as being unbearable.

From what I was told, the temperature has to be kept above average, with very low humidity levels for the first 6 months in order for the newly installed track to cure properly.

The temperature is 24 degrees / 35% humidity for the Siberian pine surface of the track. Generally warmer temperatures also result in faster times. The London 2012 velodrome was kept at 28 degrees!

They could save a lot more by selling the wood and moth balling the whole place.

Personal opinion I guess, I've been running there for about a year and find it perfect. Used to run at The Sports Center track and it was way to cold. My muscles would be too stiff to make running comfortable.

You should look up the stats they released so you can see how well it has done in the last year and their operating costs are lower than most of the other public facilities in town including the Sports Centre, Beaty Library and the Arts Centre.

I agree with the heat being way too high when I was there last week
Its winter and freezing outside so the thermostat must be really cranked
