FYI: Phone cable is having extra pair of the wires. It is possible to use them for little stereo.

Um I wouldn't put too much faith into that.. The telephone wire that is commonly used in new houses is 24 gauge.. Speaker wire as a minimum is 18gauge (thicker) and if you are running a distance or more powerful speakers then you want 16 or 14 gauge wire.

The thicker the better, always.

You can sometimes get in during framing to pull wire if you have a good relationship with your site supervisor. You can even hire me to install it for you.

And if you are running it in-wall, you need special shielded cabling, otherwise you could cause a fire and not be covered by your insurance company.

We had it in our second last house, despite the fact that they were the most expensive, high-end speaker at the time, they sounded terrible compared to wireless speakers and were obsolete pretty quick.... They were cool for a little while but once the novelty wore off, I learned not to pay money for that again.

But how is that better? Now you have to run power to them. Or change the batteries all the time (or less often if you always listen on low volume but who wants to live with that trade off?). And they will cost more than regular speakers.

Gecko, way to bust my bubble! But, you are absolutely correct, I guess it does have to run off power of some sort. I would think you can run a wire off the ceiling light, easy to fish to desired spot in ceiling. (maybe this would not work, no lights no music) But they also sell wall speakers that can be installed in the wall behind your sofa or higher on wall to desired spot, even behind a photo. I would run the wire from the electrical wall socket. This would be very easy to do

Funnyman I just googled it but I am sure bestbuy, sony or any stereo store would have these.

^^^ You're welcome, just telling it like it is. :D

For what it's worth, I use these: http://stealthacoustics.com/invisible-speakers/ but they still need wiring run. They are invisible in that they become part of the wall (same texture as drywall) and you paint over them so nobody has any idea there is a speaker there until you hear it!

I also use these: http://www.sonos.com/en-ca?r=1 - no wires and the sound is fantastic. Closer to what the OP wants (but not built-in).
