I think too many dark things in a small space makes the space seem smaller ... plus light tiles in a kitchen with dark cabinets and countertop would make a nice contrast
In my current place my kitchen and bathrooms each have different cabinets and different tiles to go with each cabinet ... They look good because they each set a different mood/ style for the room it's in ... For my new place I went with two different tiles ... 1 for the main floor and 1 for the second floor (including laundry room)
