Buy your own appliances. Unless you don't care what kind they are, and just want stainless.

Hello... my fiance and I have purchased a moonseed end, closing April 2013. We are super excited!!!! We bought it in Milton, main intersection is Derry and Bronte.
We wanted to upgrade the appliances to stainless steal.
I wanted to know if anyone recently has done this and what was the process?
Is it cheaper to upgrade it through the design center or should we just buy it ourselves?

Also, can anyone give us tips for the upgrades like hardwood floor....granite counter.... potlights.... (and if anyone has pictures of their upgrades)?

Thanks

John :)

Buy your own appliances. That way you will have your own choice on brand, looks etc, plus it will be cheaper this way

You can get hardwood flooring done yourself. Pros: save lots of money. Cons: You might not have perfect finishing around some corners (depends on the floor plan)
You can get granite counter from the builder. Pros: you will get upgraded faucet and undermount sink. Cons: Can't think of any since the prices are very competitive on this piece.
You can get Pot lights done yourself. Pros: Save lots of money. Cons: Might be difficult to put lights exactly where you want them to be if the electrician needs to make lots of holes in the joists to fish the wire. There is a slight risk of ruining the ceiling (depends on the electrician).

Good luck

Hi John,

We also bought a Moonseed end and it comes included with the three appliances (dish washer, stove, fridge). Did yours come included as well? If so, then you are only paying for the upgrade to stainless steel, which is around 600 to 700 dollars (can't remember exact amount). So if you get your appliances included too then it would be cheaper to do the upgrade, but you don't know what kind of appliances you will get. Where is your moonseed located? We are closing in April 2013 as well. :D

They are still very basic appliances that are included with the stainless upgrade: freezer-on-top fridge, basic coil-burner stove, and dishwasher. We took the design centre credit instead (it was $1500 back in 2010) and shopped around, and got a great deal on a higher end set. We were really glad we did, as the better appliances make a big visual and functional impact, and help resale. The process is easy though.. You just do it at your design centre appointment.

We did the upgrade to Quartz through Mattamy. We shopped around, and it was a very competitive price. We found a colour we liked, and were glad to have it done before we moved in.

agreed with above. did the $1500 credit (this year, still the same amount) and put it towards upgraded stairs.
looking around for appliances and with $3000 you can get a much better deal.
