I find that the floor around my fireplace is pretty cold. Does anybody have an experience with insulation around a fireplace? I am just wondering if Mattamy has put anything there.

Often the floor around gas fireplaces is cool because these fireplaces do not have a "damper" between the firebox and the outside vent. In other words, there is an open hole between the outside and the firebox. A vent on one house may be much more exposed to wind then another house so some may have more of an issue with this then others. The best solution is to run the pilot light but unfortunately some units do not allow that.

Over the years my infrared camera has rarely identified insulation issues around gas fireplaces but that's never a guarantee that the OP does not also have an insulation problem.
