Looking to put smooth ceilings in our wellington. Has anyone done this on their main level? Anything I need to know?

We have it in our house throughout, but it's not a Wellington

If done right it looks great. We had a few problems, where some spots were not that "smooth" & they had to fix pretty much 80% of our ceilings. The worst room was our 2 story family room, they had to get the large scaffold in there 3 times  It was messy but it does look better now. It will never be perfectly smooth but that's the nature of it. Still looks better than stucco IMO.

Hope you get good guys who know what they are doing & take their time :D

Good luck!

Our popcorn ceilings in the rest of our house look much better than the "smooth" kitchen ceiling...even after they came and attempted to fix it. I'd be upset if I paid the furtune that they want for it.

I agree, if not done properly it does not look very good :(

But if done right, looks great :D

1000 on the main floor and triple it for the second floor

thats right...TRIPLE..not a typo

due to the extra bracing required on the roof trusses

Can someone please explain to me why at different texture on the ceiling calls for extra bracing? I can't grasp this concept.

Haven't done it, but planning to. If u have the open-to-above family room, then the standard main floor upgrade does not include 'open to above areas' = more $$$$

my friend has popcorn in his wellington.. didnt even notice it because of the potights and 9ft ceilings, until he pointed it out

We did it on the main floor in our soon-to-be Ravenswood.
I can't recall the cost, but will ask hubby.

We also have it on the main floor of our current home and love it.
I do see some sagging, still, I think it looks better than the popcorn but was too pricey to do on the second floor.

You can try to smooth it out afterwards yourself too, but I imagine it'd be hard work.

Yes you can but it's a lot of work & very messy  Best to get it from the builder.

It's a robot post. first 4 posts make no sense on the thread they are posted on and the next 2 asking "I am interested in buying scaffold related things" If this person was real and supposedly living in Australia why ask us.....duh

So does the smooth ceiling from Mattamy look good and worth it or is it not very great quality? Is it really better than simply doing something like this this: http://www.viewalongtheway.com/2011/04/how-to-get-popcorn-ceilings-out-of-your-life/? Our Mattamy upgrades list says with the smooth ceilings upgrade the "ceiling height will be slightly reduced" - how much is "slightly"?
