As an adult I usually wore sunscreen but would still get the odd burn. After a recent bout of skin cancer I would like to remind everyone the importance of sunscreen and a hat. My cancer was actually on my scalp and I had a significant hole dug and cauterized to remove it. I know this was caused by sunburns as a kid which can't now be changed but it doesn't mean You can't start protecting yourself now. Check your skin regularly ( at least monthly) and if you have any sores that don't heal, moles/freckles with more than one colour or weird shaped borders get them checked professionally. Take care everyone, be sun smart!

Have had the exact same experience, and it was also blamed on too much sun in my younger years. But thanks for the reminder about sunscreen and hats.

I don't even think there was sunscreen when I was younger "sun tanning lotion". My mom used to slather up in baby oil and hang out at the pool and get so tanned. I am also very fair skinned with light eyes that makes one more prone to the skin cancers. I am just also thankful that basal cell does not spread to anywhere else so at I don't have too worry about that. Just need to make sure that I stay on top of any other new ones :(
