Please do your research when selecting a contractor.

1. A Energy Star rated central AC must have a minimum seer rating of 14.5, be sure that if you are told you are getting a Energy Star rated AC it is 14.5 seers or above.

2. When getting a free thermostat it is usually the one made in China that can be purchased for $7.50. I would recommend a Honeywell Pro series 7 day programmable thermostat more money but well worth it.

3. Ensure the winter cover is the factory made cover that fits your AC properly, sung on top and loose fitting towards the bottom. Aftermarket generic winter covers can be bought real cheap but will blow away, we see this all the time. Wrapping your AC with bungee chords or duct tape is a bad idea, this will trap all the moisture in your AC causing a build up of condensation. Make sure you get the factory cover not the cheap generic one.
4. Please get a copy of the ESA completion certificate, to ensure a ESA inspection was actually done, you will need this for your home insurance

5. In terms of warranty of the AC, I have not heard of a 10 year labour warranty from the manufacturer unless the extended warranty is purchased. If you are told you have a 10 labour warranty on your AC ask for proof from the manufacturer.

6. When it comes to duct cleaning find out exactly what you are getting and the process in which your ducts are being cleaned.

7. Get EVERYTHING in writing in detail!

We are glad to see that the above poster is not pretending to be a homeowner again posting ficticious positive ratings of his own company to promote himself and mislead the members of this forum.

Best Regards,

Craig Newhouse
