Or are you looking for a way to hide your wires?

Most tech saavy neighbors can probably help you connect up your surround sound, unless you are considering an elaborate setup whereby you need things mounted, holes drilled/fished, etc.

Have you already purchased a surround sound setup?

Yeah..if its just hooking up wires and set up, I don't mind helping! I love doing that.

It really depends on how nice and neat you want things to look.

If you want to place speakers in a room there are a couple of ways to do it.

1) Place the speakers where needed, and then run your speaker wire around the outside of the room and tuck it under the baseboards. If it is a carpeted room, this is generally very very easy to do.

2) If you plan on mounting your speakers up on the walls, you can do #1, but then cut holes into the baseboard below where you mount the speakers, cut holes where you want the wire to come out on the wall, and pull the wire up behind the drywall.

3) If you want to hang them from the second floor ceiling, you will have to get the wire into the attic somehow. Mount the speakers to a ceiling joist, and then up into the attic and feed your wire down.

Avoid exterior walls. They have a vapour barrier immediately behind the drywall. You do not want to screw with that for fear of causing condensation build-up leading to mould.

Wire coat hangers are your friend.

Very good ideas Greg. I was planning to do #1 and #2 the only problem I have with that then, is my living room is an outside wall, where I most likely want to put the wires.

Let me know if I can be of any help. I have lots of toys for doing this sort of thing as it is pretty much the same as fishing telephone lines.

Monica, my friends live on McGuffin Gate. Did you buy the house resale from Royal Lepage?

I know your neighbours.

I was helping them move in when the sign went up, then the next day it was sold! Looking at your house they are on the left.
