Has anyone bought a Shady Glenn?
We would like to know what upgrades we should consider OR changes made to our house.
Please advise.
Trini

Hi Trini,

We also bought a Shady Glen, and our "for sure" list of upgrades from the builder include extending the ceramics from the foyer to the kitchen, adding an all-oak staircase, and a gas fireplace...

Our "maybe" list includes adding an arch to the entrance to the kitchen & to the family room (like in the model home), a cold cellar & a door from the garage to the home... We have a budget set in mind, so what we get will depend on what the builder charges...

We also plan on having hardwood floors on the main level, but this we plan on doing ourselves for sure... From what I've heard, Mattamy charges $11 a square foot for this, and we can do this ourselves for a fraction of that cost...

Do you have someone in mind to do your hardwood floors or are you doing it yourselves?
I was thinking the same to install hardwood on the main level.

Hi Trini,

Tyson's dad can get us a deal on the hardwood, and we have a friend who's in construction and knows how to install them... So we're all set... And Thanks Magellan, I was thinking about the group buys, but like I said, we already have a great deal lined up for us...

What kind of upgrades were you thinking of doing? After seeing the price lists for everything, we are getting our top 3 (oak staircase, fireplace & ceramics in the hallway), and maybe the door from the garage into the house... Everything else is going to be out of our budget :-(

Hi there,
You guys are really lucky to get someone of your own to do the hardwood.
We are thinking of :
1: 3 pc washroom in the basement as it really helps in doing up your basement in future, being through it....
2: Garage Door...
3: Ceramic tiles - hallway to kitchen.
4: Cold Cellar in basement.
5: Fireplace.
6: Arch between kitchen and great room - like the pottington model....
7: Conduit from basement to up for future wiring ????

Only thing I am concerned is the hardwood flooring for living and great room area???? :(
