Hi,
I tried to get our garage door opener installed (By professional installer) but we encounter this issue.
(We closed last week.)
Just wondering if there are any standard or if there is any minimum code for this.
Our garage door is too close to the garage ceiling. See pic 1.
The gap between the two is less than 2 inches hence it’s not possible to install the rail for the door opener.
I checked some neighbouring houses (yet to close on our street) and they all have anywhere from 18" to 24" of gap between garage door and the ceiling. Some of them are the same plan.
I went to Mattamy warranty office to report this but as usual I get the answer "It depends on grade"
No one has shown up yet despite reminders.
I took some pictures. Any help would be appreciated.
Can_Power.

Call the Town of Milton and have an inspector come out to see it.

If you can't get the problem resolved, you could return your garage door opener and purchase a wall mounted garage door opener.

I think most companies are making them nowadays.

Here is a link to Chamberlain Liftmaster. Wayne Dalton also makes them.

Unfortunately, I saw this garage door and there is only a few inches of clearance on either side of the door.. so this solution won't work either.

Friend of mine had this in an older resale home he bought... he cut a whole in the dry wall above the garage to accommodate the motor. Worked fine until he sold the house 5 years later... Still works fine as far as he knows..

If they won't do anything I'm sure a professional garage door installer will have a work around for it.
