When we were booking our townhome the sales person mentioned that the basement windows will only be large enough to let a kid pass through. However, I think if you upgraded to a gas fireplace you will get a larger window.

When I was snooping around my house last weekend, I noticed the basement windows were very small. I definitely don't think I could fit if there was a fire. I'm not very big, but for sure not child-size!

Bigger windows only come when you purchase the rec room package.

We got that but i dont like how half of the window is below ground and half above ground.

If you can't afford bigger windows, just start your fires upstairs.
I'm pretty sure that's just the town's way of preventing people from stuffing their house full of relatives.

Check quickly to ensure you have all the basement windows as per plan.
normally there are 3 windows. However it has been noticed the builder hss only
installed 2 small windows.

Check size is also large enough, some of them are so small, you can not crawl out
if there is afire.
check and let builder know, before they close up the wall.

This is good advice.

I noticed my basement were small at the early stages, and spoke to customer service.

They told me that I would be getting larger windows as I paid for the 3 piece rough option.

They told me that they normally build the foundation first , they cut for windows after

I did my framewalk last week, and noticed there was neither a 3 piece rough in , nor larger windows.

They had to make a few calls to ask for this to be corrected

I cant imagine mattamy could make a mistake like this :(

One question, are we allowed to examine the house exterior, front and rear before the framewalk? Is it normally for buyers to do this?

A lot of headaches can be avoided viewing the construction yourself long before the framewalk.

A family member had bought a house through Mattamy where they forgot to add the rough in. Because the concrete had been poured in the basement, Mattamy had refused to add it in and they returned the money. If they forgot yours, you should push hard, and hope the basement hasn't been poured.

You can upgrade to 200 Amps later but it will cost you more than the ~$900 or so that Mattamy charges for the upgrade.

I would assume that the power cable coming into the house would only be for 100amps. Mattamy would not install a larger cable if they don't have to.

Upgrading to 200amp isn't just changing the panel. You will need to change the main power line, the meter, and the panel.
