I want to rant a little bit here... We just moved into our new house in Vista, and the neighborhood is beautiful!!! We absolutely love it, and all the people we have meet so far are great. BUT... it seems a lot of people like to speed through!

WHY do certain idiots feel the need to speed through residential areas???? There are a lot of children already in the area, yet particular morons fly through like its the autobahn... what gives?

Its a construction area to boot, so there are no sidewalks to walk on (they are being put in) so we have to walk to on the street. I dont particularly like the dust cloud caused by cars flying by, but I can live with a bit of dust... its a construction area, I get it. My issue is speeding period, and my concern is for the children!!!

SLOW DOWN! If you're on my street, the next street over... I dont care where you are... SLOOOOOOOOW DOWN!!!!

If you speed past me while I am out with my son, and I happen to walk past you when you're parked... you bet I will introduce myself!

Sincerely... the guy driving really slow :)

While I'm quite sure the people you see, are in fact, speeding... if you're going to approach strangers and tell them to slow down, you should go armed with a radar gun telling them how fast they were going.

If you have no proof, while you're at it, you might as well tell the guy his wife is bending over the for the milkman while the mailman cleans out her inbox.
Without proof it's all subjective and might not get you the results you're looking for.

Just my 2 cents (and I like spitting hairs, lol)

I could not agree more. Eyeball radar guns are not as accurate as most people would like to think they are.

To a pedestrain walking on a street, having a car go by you at 50 will seem faster than it really is. But does not mean they are speeding.

I'm not syaing they aren't speeding (since I was not there with my eyeball radar gun.) But I am saying you'd be surprised at how many of the accused aren't.

so the speed limit on Savoline is 60?

And yes, to a certain extent, I am denying it. Do people speed? Of course they do. (By the sounds of it, you're one of them, unless Savoline is not a residential street.) But people do not speed at the break neck rates posters on this forum will have you believe.

I've lived here for years. I'm either the most oblivious and blind person in town, or most people exaggerate and generalize.

Also, make sure you don't stop near Don&Carmen, they may be knocking on your window and introducing themselves!

I don't know what to tell you dude. I don't think the speed limit is 60, but that's about how fast I was going. Is that speeding? I'm sure it is. I didn't claim that it wasn't. What I DID claim is that out of the 4 or 5 times I've been to that neighbourhood, twice I've been passed by people going quite a bit faster than me. And I've watched how fast people ahead of me pull away when we're moving in the same direction.

Your personal lack of experience is quite irrelevant when other people are describing their own. Your denial of other people's perceptions does not refute the idea that people are speeding. If you want to play the logical/scientific game, come more prepared.

Your certainty that people don't speed at the "break-neck speeds" (your descriptive term, nobody else's on here) comes from the fact that YOU have never seen it.

I've never seen a human albino... that doesn't mean they don't/can't, nor does it mean that people who claim to have seen one are exaggerating.

Note the slight hypocrisy of you saying that "most" people generalize.

If I sound angry or aggressive it's because I am. It pisses me off LARGE when I'm driving and I see people doing dangerous things and to hear people deny, condone or justify it makes it worse. People can and do die because of inconsiderate drivers.

What's ironic is that you are speeding on a residential street and complaining that people are speeding on a residential street at the same time. But for some reason it's ok when you do it, and pisses you off LARGE when others do.

There is a new thread on this forum every other day about speeders. I've lived here for 5 plus years, I drive in this town every day. I just don't see it. It's a safe place. With new posts and threads popping up all the time here, it's reasonable to think I'd have come across a few of these road raging lunatics by now. Yet somewhow, by the grace of god, I continue to get where I'm going safely.

Some person walking down the street on a sidewalk posting that there are speeders everywhere lacks any teeth to me. There is no perspective. I don't doubt that they think people are speeding, and maybe they are, but not from a sidewalk vantage point.

HV and HVE are VERY different places to live.

I can only assume that you, Martin, live in the original HV since you said you've been here for years.

In HV, nobody ever passes anybody on the subdivision roads.

I think if you actually read what I wrote, you'd see that I said

What that means is I acknowledge speeding and speeders, but not at the rate posters here will have you believe.

As for your speed. You can't have it both ways. You can't live in a black and white world on the topic, and then jump to a shades of grey world when it suits you. You are speeding down a residential street, and complaining about it in the same breath.

What's the word for that?? It's on the tip of my tongue... I think it starts with H. (Oh man, I just know that's gunna bother me all day till I think of it.)

Tell Don&Carmen the OP, that 60 is ok on residential strees in HVE.

The speed limit within the urban area of Milton is 50 km/hr, unless otherwise posted. The speed limit in a rural area is 80 km/hr, unless otherwise posted

And for what it is worth, I tend to drive slower on streets like Scott and Savoline (south of Derry) than a lot of others, probably in the 45 km/hr range.

The next debate I see happening is that Stop Signs are optional in HVE.. :P

To be honest, this debate is going nowhere because you are stuck on your unwavering belief that what you see is what everyone else SHOULD see. If they don't, then their perspective isn't accurate.

Call me crazy, but when an anonymous person on the internet posts that they saw a speeder from their vantage point on a sidewalk - I don't eat that up as fact right away.

= open minded

Again, I never said speeders don't exist. But I did say, (and stand by the statement that) Milton is safe, and this forum blows this topic out of proportion daily.

Logic indicates that the truth lies somewhere in the middle... in terms of likelihood. It may be likely that some "real" frequency of dangerous driving is nowhere near the frequency with which I saw it,

OK knuckleheads, you're actually AGREEING now.
Martin says it doesn't happen as often as you're led to believe by reading on these forums, and RCK says the frequency lies somewhere in the middle of 40% of the time, and never.

As for the "Danger" aspect of all this, the guy speeding doing 70 could very well think he's driving safely, and he could also think that the guy doing 40 that he passed is driving dangerously.

Let's end the message on this note.. HVE / Vista folks, Savoline and Scott are NOT meant for passing. AND they're not meant for under the limit Sunday Driving either.
no posting means 50. Please drive safely, and most importantly, be considerate of other drivers and pedestrians you're putting in a sandstorm.

Have you ever seen a molecule of DNA? No, because nobody has really seen one. Do you 'believe' that it exists? It's called indirect evidence. And it's also called trusting other people when you have no way of REFUTING (which is very different from denying) what they're saying.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster paid me a visit last night and told me that I should speed on residential streets in Milton. Anything less than 80kmh and he would strike me down with His Noodly Appendage.

Unless you can refute this strange (and wondrous) occurrence, then I think we should treat my visitation as equivalently valid as any other irrefutable anecdote.

As for your DNA statement...

I'm sorry to say this but everyone on here is getting a little hot-headed and probably all suffer from some form of road rage.

I agree, that pedestrians THINK that cars are driving faster than they really are.

Test out the theory with your neighbors, we are a crescent with MANY small children and a few of us banded together to test what 40 km/h LOOKS like.

Speeding is dangerous driving.

And if a guy passes you on a residential road, speeding isn't the issue we should be discusing, dangerous driving is. Why is everyone so crazy about speeding when dangerous driving is the real issue. Doing 80kph down Scott blvd is a heck of a lot less dangerous than passing someone on that same street (please note that I'm not avdocating doing 80kph, it's an example).

(Again, ignoring the arguments)

I am going to request cross-walks too.

The other day I was crossing the road with my kids. Because it's so wide, it takes time to cross (especially when walking with children). When we were about a quarter of the way through a lady in an SUV turns into Scott (from some street). She then proceeds to speed down even though she could see that at that point we were in the middle of the street. As she approached us, instead of stopping for pedestrians who were already crossing - as required by the law - she decided to swirve around us.

At that time I was walking with my 5 yeard old and my 2 year old. I agree, it's not the actual speed as much as it is dangerous driving. If I had witnessed this happend to somebody else's kids I'd have ran behind her and noted her number down. I had my kids with me so I couldn't do anything except shake my head at the stupidity of some people.

(You may continue now)

Damn those SUVs!! (1/2 kidding)

Honestly, the arguments in this thread are over the top. And I'm the guy who loves internet forum arguments ...
