There is some truth to that cartoon, but some people go so ridiculously slow and are so frustrating to be behind that it's highly therapeutic to overtake them even if the light ahead turns red or the traffic ahead slows down, and they catch up. Gunning the engine sometimes is fun too. :twisted:

I assume this is Kevin writing, and I recall you wrote twice that you are an aggressive driver (within reason and only on certain roads). I'm the same way as you on the road, so I believe you understand my point.

Correct on both counts. Revving my engine to the 8200 rpm limit is always good therapy for finally getting around an annoying slow driver or a brake driver (you know the ones who must be driving with their left foot on the brake because every 3 seconds they hit the brake for no reason). Sure I'm only doing it in first (62 kph) or second (86ish kph), but the sound makes it all better.

When I used to have to commute from brampton to work (at 401 and mississauga rd) I used to have to do this several times to blow off some steam. Now that I'm commuting from HVE, I usually only have to do it one or two times tops, and sometimes not at all.

I hear you and feel the pain. Wow, an 8200 rpm redline and 62 km/h in 1st? I presume you must have a high-performing Acura or a Teutonic Titan like an Audi or BMW. All very good. My Japanese VQ35 mill can't crank out that kind of intensity, so I settle for the 6500 rpm redline when needed. :(

VQ35 is a sexy engine ... but I'd rather have the VQ37, specially in the 370z convertable .... drooooool

But ya, I have a little dinky 4 banger Civic Si ;)

It's my compromise between performance and not losing my license performance. I can make lots of vroom vroom feeling without actually going very vroom vroom.

Though that 370z ... it calls my name.

I gotta agree, redlining through gears is a great way for me to blow off steam after driving behind a moron that has his right foot on the brake, or doing 100 km/h in the passing lane.

Ontario drivers (majority) will never learn that this lane is for passing only, not cruising at the speed limit.

Just ask the Dutchess to make and sell more jewellery, and then ask for one for X-Mas. :idea:

I like VIP sleepers that can burn rubber and overtake slowpokes if needed. This used ride calls my name and is reasonably attainable, but it's my bank account that's rude, and can't answer right away (not for at least 2 years). 340 hp and 333 lb-ft of twist, but even though it's heavy, if it can do 0-100 km/h in approx. 6 seconds stock, which it can, that's good enough:

Middle lane 100 km/h drivers are the true plague of Ontario. The ironic, and dangerous, solution to middle and left lane cruisers is to drive in the right lane. Which is usually empty during off-rush hours. The only thing in those lanes are trucks, which are easy to see/anticipate.

I find that anytime you drive on a 400 series highway in Ontario that is out of the way enough that there are only 2 lanes you tend to see people cruising in the left lane and passing in the right. As soon as you introduce the 3rd (or got forbid 4th and 5th) lanes, it's like peoples brains melt.

Either that or city folk don't know how to drive on highways, as it's only in the city where you get those extra lanes.

If you want to eliminate even more of the gridlock and keep the traffic flow then we should adopt more of the the European rules. For example, in certain countries trucks (>5t) are not allowed on the roads during specified time frames; specifically rush-hours.

In Germany, trucks are only allowed in the right lane (regardless of how many lanes there are). Passing is only allowed on the left. But I digress... they know how to drive there. :?

Aye, it's my bank account that is being rude as well.

And a used Q45 is a beautiful thing, don't shy away from the M45 either.

I Completely agree with and share the pain of all the posters. I fall in the same category (Thereauputic Over-Taker).

I Drive From Yonge/Finch daily and ask myself the same question about the trucks and Rules in Europe.

I Dont think anything will change (unaware slow drivers freaking out in three or more lanes, specially between Weston and 427 on the 401) our Government doesnt have the competence to force any changes let alone change the rules to restrict large trucks during peak hours.

It always amazes me how many people think they know the highway rules, yea, there isn't a lane defined as a "passing" lane but the rules clearly state that you are to drive in the right lane when travelling slower than other traffic on the road with a couple of exceptions:

(c) road service vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 147 (2).

Notice it says at less than normal speed and not the posted speed limit which means the speed traffic is flowing at.

And, it is normal to pass on the left or allowed on the right under the following conditions:


Passing to right of vehicle

150. (1) The driver of a motor vehicle may overtake and pass to the right of another vehicle only where the movement can be made in safety and,

(a) the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn or its driver has signalled his or her intention to make a left turn;

(b) is made on a highway with unobstructed pavement of sufficient width for two or more lines of vehicles in each direction; or

(c) is made on a highway designated for the use of one-way traffic only. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 150 (1).

Meaning according to (b) that on a multi-lane highway passing on the right is OK!

Regardless of the speed limit, the law quoted above is also a law. Meaning, if you cannot keep up with the flow of traffic, whether its above the limit or below, you move to the right lane.

One can argue that some people are disobeying the speed limit. You are also disobeying the law by NOT DRIVING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, as also stated in the law.

You know what scares me? People who drive in a bubble. They are only looking just far enough ahead so that they can hit their brakes when the car in front of them does, or stop at a stop light ... but hardly anymore then that. When they change lanes is the only time they check their mirrors, and when they make a turn out into traffic they only check to see if they 'have room' and not bother to notice the speed of the vehicle they are turning in front of.

These are the drivers that scare me. Yes I'm an aggressive driver. Yes I like to accelerate fast. Yes I do over take people in whatever lane has the most room. Yes I change lanes often in an attempt to drive in the lane of least resistance at all times.

Despite all that, I'm a very cautious driver. I'm constantly checking my mirrors, I'm looking as far ahead as I can (another reason I change lanes is so that I can see further then the bumper of the SUV or Minivan or Truck in front of me). I don't cut people off, I don't tailgate. I never drive over the limit in residential areas.

I guess my point is that just because I'm an aggressive driver doesn't mean I'm a dangerous driver.
