hey all...we have an adorable orange tabby that we need to find a good home for asap...
harley is approximately three years old and is a charismatic princess...but we can't keep her....i am pregnant and have been warned about the possible difficulties the baby could encounter with a cat...but more immediately, i've now been told i am possibly allergic to her!
she has been declawed at the front, and was spayed by the vet we got her from...so she's an indoor cat.....we've had her not from birth, but got her as a kitten...possibly about 8 months to 1yr old, we were told...she is shy at first, but opens up and is good with most other animals...
i hope someone can keep her b/c we certainly don't want to have to return her to the vet or a shelter and cannot in good conscience just let her go....she couldn't defend herself!

Just wondering, though... What are the "possible difficulties the baby could encounter with a cat"? And if you are just possibly allergic to cats, it can't be so bad that you need to get rid of her!

I have allergies to cats, and have owned 3. You just need to learn how to manage them

I am however a cat lover, so I can justify nearly everything for a cat, lol.

My suggestion: wait to see how the cat and your new baby will react to each other before giving away your cat.

I'm pregnant myself, and I did not give away my cat. I couldn't even imagine doing that. I went to TWO doctors and they both confirmed that you do not have to give away your cat when you are pregnant. The only thing you have to worry about now, that you are pregnant, is do not clean the litter. Have your bf, husband, friend, anyone else, do that for you. Avoid cleaning the litter, and you're good.

Once the baby arrives, I'm going to see how it gets along with the cat and vice versa. If the baby is allergic, well then, I'll definitely consider giving the cat away to a loving family. But, I'm very confident that everything will be ok. Almost everyone I know has a baby and a cat, and everything was and still is ok.

thanks for the well-meaning comments....but the decision has been made...my husband and i want what's best for our child...i'm sure that is understandable...

i've not ever really seen her use her back claws...i mainly see her still trying to knead her bed with her clawless front paws
we haven't really had many kids around; just our friend's daughter...harley is very good with her...she is very good with ppl in general...she's just shy at first...but she loves to rub against feet...or just to get attention by falling down and rolling over in front of you so that you play with her...and she'll jump into your lap if she really likes you...
she has been very good with her litter box....it's really cute to hear her clean her paws before she comes out

I'm sorry, but pets are not disposable because they suddenly become inconvenient.

I would hope that possible future children would factor into the decision to get a pet in the first place so you wouldn't have to traumatize a furry family member when they no longer fit your lifestyle.

I hope you find a forever home for her....

I have three cats and welcomed my three kids to our family without the thought of giving away my kitties. They are my babies too!

What risk is involved with bringing home your baby to a home with a cat???
