I own a meet up group for moms - www.meetup.com/NewMomsinGTA. Right now there aren't a lot of active newer moms, but you can check it out anyway. there is also a good Oakville meet up group at http://www.meetup.com/oakvillemoms/

Momstown is a great way to meet other moms. Between it and the MCRC, I've met a lot of great ladies and have made some good friends. Here's the Milton Momstown link, http://milton.momstown.ca/ Sam, the owner, is really friendly and welcoming. The calendar of events makes it really easy to jump in and go to playgroups and other activities.

I am currently on mat leave with a 7 month old. Honestly, some of these programs aren't for everyone. I took my first child to Mother Goose, and after 3 classes, I left because the class was torture for me. I haven't taken an interest in the Early Years Centre this time around either, but I have heard there are many helpful learning tools and programs for new mums there. I.e. Calling New Parents, Healthiest Babies Possible, etc.

I would prefer to hang out with one or two mums over a coffee or breakfast somewhere, then be in a large group of women I don't know. Being a new mother is overwhelming enough!

I was not into the big mom groups either. I like more relaxed settings.

I also teach mom and baby yoga classes every Thursday. It is a small group and we get to enjoy gentle and relaxing movements with baby and connect with other moms. It is normally a group of 3- 6 moms. If you think you might want to try it, I am doing a series of drop in classes every Dec 6, 13 and 20 at 11:30am or you can register for a January 10th term.

The Early Years Centre is great. I 'forced' myself to go in the beginning, because I am an introvert. One mother suggested that we get together in one mother's home every Friday, and we continued that for all of our mat. leave. There were about 20-30 of us. Now, I am still in touch with 4 of the ladies that I met there (5 years later).

Totally hear what you're saying. But what I am saying is that I am not that comfortable socializing in large groups of women I don't know. I'd rather hang out with 1 or 2 mothers that I do know instead.
